It shouldn't be this easy to be a dictator.
So I was playing Germany and got to the point where my party had 100% support in elections. Deciding to see how far the game would let me go I started to end policies the led to a growth in membership for Liberals (the largest voting group in Germany at that time). I eliminated freedom of the press, reduced judicial independence to none, extended my terms to the maximum length, making ID cards mandatory, and eventually brought the Democracy rating down to 0. Liberals were declining fast in favor or Patriots and Conservatives. My support was still 100% in elections.

Next I tried to see if Germany could leave the EU (it can't) by building a border wall, making immigration very difficult, cutting all foreign aid, and doing everything else I could to harm foreign relations. My election support was still 100%.

It was getting late so I decided to go full YOLO and passed a fully funded Space Program and Mars Program, paying for it by eliminating pensions. I also nationalized all industries and increased military, police, and intelligence funding to full. I banned women drivers, legalized torture, secret courts, and arrest without charges. I also totally banned unions and made prayers mandatory twice a day. At this point my election support was about 99%. I then legalized tear gas, rubber bullets, tazers, and water cannons as well as drone strikes and police drones (this started an ineffectual protest). I think all of this brought me down to 98% support.

So I ended up with a Germany that was dominated by Patriots (100% of the population), Conservatives, and Environmentalists (I had gone full green dictator). My election support never got below 98%. I had fun but I feel like the game made it way too easy. I expected the Liberals to start pushing back against me hard, especially in the early stages, but this opposition never materialized and most liberals still voted for me as their numbers steadily declined. There were also zero consequences to having a 0 democracy rating because my stability was boosted by other things. I had fun going full dictator (in a simulation) but I think Democracy 4 made it waaaay too easy. I am hopeful that this is just because the game is in early access and my Patriotic Green Germany will be much harder to build in the final version of the game.

Well I will say all liberals are going to do is protest, so if you control the other major voting groups it's just a numbers game at that point.

That's the thing, the Liberals kept voting for me until I really started to go nuts. Even then many of them still voted for me. It seems that once you get the support of the populace it is very hard to lose it.

Yes its weird how only the red bubbles cause real Voter Drop-off, but theyll easily vote against their best intrest if it means some other boxes like Strong Pro Enviromental Laws are in place🤔

I haven't quite narrowed down exactly what I think the issue is. I think the best indicator that something weird is going on is when the percentage that vote for you is vastly different from the percentage of the "everyone" group that approves of you. I know this isn't a perfect indicator because not everyone votes but if only 40% approve of me, I shouldn't be getting 90% of the vote.

In democracy 3, Africa, and 4, I've never seen a close vote. I either win with >90 or lose with <10. I'd really like to see more difficult elections.
