You can, but Syberia - The World Before can also be played as a stand-alone.

Also, please note that the game includes a "Previously..." option that shows a short clip of previous events.

Syberia 4 Is an very impressive and amazing stand alone adventure. - but by playing part 1-3, the real magic comes alive. Kate's deep relationship with Oscar, as an example.

I agree with Sync Entity. A lot of the character moments and some of the scenes have more meaning because of the previous games.

I agree with Sync Entity as well.. I just finished my playthrough of Syberia 3 and I'm so glad I played it.

Dammit - I'll start with Syberia 1 then. Heading back in time 20 years.

The memories in 2002 was too busy playing Warcraft III, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast this adventure game slipped under the radar.

Do yourself a favour and play all the previous games first (including Amerzone). I am someone that has played all of the games religiously more than ten times and I was able to understand all the references in The World Before, which there are many, immediately. The story becomes much more meaningful when you know the story of Kate Walker. She is one of the best developed characters in modern video game history in my opinion.

Just a reminder: the old games are not optimized for modern pcs. Just started Syberia 2 and the fps is uncapped = all dialogs are cut short and it runs on 999 fps. A fast solution is to install MSI Afterburner which installs Riva Tuner -> add Syberia2.exe and cap fps to 30 or 60.

Syberia found me 20 years ago, and since then it is in my heart as a precious memory. this is not a simple game, it really is something more.... absolutely I recommend to play the first 3, without judging the gameplay or anything, but just for the story....from time to time I open one of the old Syberia just to visit the places I remember fondly, such as Valadilene or Aralbad, or to see dear old Oscar again...I know I know, I'm a hopeless dreamer :-)

I advise you to play first 3 games first.

You'll be able to appreciate everything- the storyline, the newer graphics, the culture within Syberia, etc.
