Best spots for lake trout
The "go to" lake in the south west isn't working for me any longer with 2/0 spinnerbait. I used to get hits on it constantly. Any tips for where to find lake trout now, and with what bait?

PS: I hate jigging. I would rather not jig for them.

Thanks. This is wild. I haven't caught a single Lake Trout since the last patch. Been fishing your spot for a while with a 2/0 spinnerbait. I'll try a grub!

the bigger lake to the sw of the one Poltergeist is a great place for lake trout, I use a 2/0 jerkbait and consistently get diamonds and golds.

Now that we got the trout covered where are all the catfish hiding?

Tell me about it, I've been going after them for a while now. Still trying to nail down their hook sizes.

6 for juveniles, 5 for bronze, 4 for large bronze and silvers, 3 for large silvers and gold, 2 for golds, 1 for large golds and diamond, possibly 1/0 for diamond only.

I have the best luck, believe it or not, in the northwest most lake that has the little island in the middle, right off the dock or on the opposite side of the dock, IN THE DAY, not at night. Whats also worked for me for hook sizes was i look at the baits max and min, i pick right in the middle. As far as bait/bobber height im one notch under the SHORTEST length. If i dont have a fish come to the bait within 15-30 seconds im using the wrong bait. I almost never use lures. I really on use lures for Salmon and Gold trout. Hope this helps.

Thanks both, funny I was just fishing in that lake last night. Was running #3 to #1/0 with not a lot of luck with a combo of cheese, liver, and wieners.

Whoa, whoa. whoa. :)

The trout are covered? I tried both lakes last evening, with numerous styles of bait. The only time I could get them consistently biting was on a #3 spinnerbait - but those were only bronze. We're talking the bottom southwest and top northwest lakes, right? :(

Minnows and Leeches work well as bait. Also a Frog lure works well for cast and retrieve to flush them out.

I catch many catfish around Opal Lake walking the shoreline flipping and casting.

Thanks for the Opal lake tip, I took my dam boat to the dam and cast my dam rod with #3 hook and cheese and got a dam diamond catfish.
