Float Depth

How do I know how low I can set the float depth in any given area of a lake? Is there a fish finder, depth finder or something? Or a map that would have that info?

You can't adjust the depth when fishing with a float, it's badly done, I don't understand why they put a sliding float and you can only fish with a float at a depth of 1.40 m.
The best way you throw a lure and you can see the bottom.

If I'm not mistaken you can adjust it with the mouse wheel. The tutorial says you can and there's an indicator that does appear to work. What I can't figure out is how to tell how deep the water is, so I know if my chosen depth is going to drag the bottom.

Cast over the area you plan to fish in, as your retrieving keep an eye on the overall depth. Bottom # on the right lower UI. If you cast a float into to shallow of water it just sends it back. Hope this helps. But yes a depth finder on the boats would be nice.

Yes but even doing what you say the depth is limited to 1.4 meters which seems low to me.

For reference, FP has sliders and wagglers you can set to a depth of 215 inches (which is almost 19 ft). Hopefully, the devs have something to add from their bag of surprises; however, right now, I don't think the current float depth (limited range) has any impact on catching fish.

At least I've never experienced any difference between highest and lowest depth settings when it comes to float fishing tbh. I also find it to be the most inefficent way to catch fish in this game, due to the simplicity of predatory fish behavior when hunting after spinning baits. It's such a no brainer that it makes float fishing almost obsolete, as long as you're not interested in collecting every species.
