Catch & Release? Really?

I was hoping for mounts and even tanks to put your fish in. But they say it will be only catch and release. After watching the twitch video with Rushy, I was surprised that they are trying to make this game ethical. LOL Really?...Its a game. In theHunter you can literally wipe out any species on a map everyday and mount their heads on the wall with zero regard for ethics. You can shoot deer with a tracking light arrow multiple times and watch it run around at night. Its what makes the game fun for a lot of people.
Not sure why they would not just give you the option to release or keep to satisfy everyone. I'm hoping they just want to release the game and then add it later...

I think they are trying to promote responsible and ethical interactions with wildlife. They've been doing this for a while (ie: grounded birds, ethical shot placement, appropriate calibre, etc). Nothing to complain about, especially when they are really rocking the genera with this title.

If you are promoting hunting and fishing you have a responsibility to do it ethically. Thats just common sense.

There is no common sense or anything ethical in the COTW:theHunter, so why the fishing game? Its a game. In the Hunter you cant murder animals by the mass...Oh but be sure to use the right bullet...LOL

Well not interested if its catch and release. Thats just stupid on a fishing game. Just dont fish at all and go be a hippie and eat soa beans and seaweed.
Ethical fishing is the use of barbles hooks. And stones instead of lead weights.
And clean up your trash after fishing.

Did they ever google ethical fishing practices?

So that means a nice trophy on the wall to show off, and use the scraps fishmeat you get as fish bait.

I would think that choosing to play this game in general would be an ethical option over going out and doing it in the real world....lol. This is a game....nearly every other fishing game on the market gives you the option to keep your fish and sell them to earn cash and rank up to better equipment....I was really looking forward to this game, however, im not too sure this game will compete with those made before it who put there feelings aside for the ones who will be buying it and paying these creators for doing a good job!! Hopefully, they'll come around and make it the best they can either way.

Agree. I know nothing about fishing, but even I've watched animal planet, and I know there should be better ways to teach ethics.

funny thing you say ethical, in germany its unethical to catch and release because fish suffer more like that. its so illegal, you can literally go to jail for animal cruelty if you catch and release. PepeLaugh

it takes the fun out of the "game" not sure why they will add things for multiplayer but then take away the lodges and trophy system whats going to be funner guys taking a screen shot or having a trophy system and a lodge

I can live with it IF it has some form of log book with information for sizes, weights, maybe even a animated picture of it for reference.

If the interview they said they will have leader boards for species and you have a log of all your catches. Still...visuals are always a good bonus and should be in the game.

Exactly...You will get photos when you catch and then a log and leader boards, but still it sucks.

Right... What we need is a net so we have to travel back to sell them. Really need to feel the grind and be like other games.

Honestly it's more ethical imo to catch it and eat it. Let us sell the fish and use the cash towards new stuff so other people can "eat it" or put it in an aquarium. Letting the fish suffer while getting hooked to only throw it back with a big hole in it's mouth repeatedly doesn't sound any better lol.

They may add dlc later. I think on theHunter you couldn't really mount and stuff until they added the lodge dlcs?
