Yet to play the hard mode but I imagine its even worse.
If the course review comment of them now having a former Disney employee(s) is true then that explains it. Also the fact Mighty Coconut puts so much focus on their Twitter account and every company that does that goes to ♥♥♥♥ because Twitter is basically an online version of a mental asylum.
It's my favourite VR game but I can easily see myself quit playing it and buying courses within a year. Part of it is Mighty Coconut starting to push an ideology I do not agree with and part of it is because every game company that was cool when it was small inevitably goes to ♥♥♥♥ after they start to become more popular and make more money. I thought Lucas wouldn't "sell out" but I fully expect he will and we're starting to see that. There was a time when he would actually take part on the game's Discord channel or a couple of the other early employees he hired would back in late 2020 early 2021 but it seems they're too good for that now. It's all about Twitter and $$$ now for them.
seems metas buyout finally makes it worse for other platforms. same seems already happening for beat saber before :-(
I second every word of this. I absolutely LOVED all the original DLC's, until MYST, which wasn't my thing as I never played the original MYST so all significance was lost on me (it was an "okay" course but not really replayable). Then Atlantis seems like a nice idea except mini golf would not work underwater and for those like me who have a water phobia, not the best setting.
This latest one, Upside Town, I've heard was a request by those who loved Hole 17 on Labyrinth -- which was a movie I loved and I was so excited for the DLC but after getting it, it's just "meh." Upside Town has proven painful and/or hazardous to people with neck issues and other physical limitations, so I will not be buying it.
What struck me as odd was Inner VR Princess' YouTube video on Upside Town, which came across almost as an almost sad plea for players to buy the DLC, as if he were trying really hard to muster up something good to say about it. (He is one of those with a neck injury who has to be careful.) There seemed an edge of disappointment and perhaps regret in his tone as he tried to focus on positives for this course.
The last few DLC's have seemed to me to be exactly what bkcj22 said: Mighty Coconut losing its direction from what works. One wonders if perhaps the team has changed and no longer has the same vision for the game as the original developers/course designers did?
At any rate, I started off loving this game and every DLC, was determined to buy every DLC the moment they came out. Then Labyrinth was a bit of a letdown, MYST wasn't my thing (and not fun enough on its own), Atlantis was literally underwater, and now Upside Town poses potential health hazards. I do love 20,000 Leagues and look forward to the next Jules Verne one, though at this rate maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.
I liked it.
Wasn't the hardest course (I did it with a -11 score the first time through on the easy course) but it was an interesting additional mechanic.
I can see why they did it this way though, if someone is going to struggle with it on the walls or ceiling, you don't want the first course that really shows off this mechanic to be hard too. (I think par is quite lenient on some of the holes, on top of them being fairly simplistic)
I'll reserve full judgement for once I've played through the hard course.
For what it's worth, we loved the course and had an absolute blast. I also really appreciate Mighty Coconut experimenting with new mechanics. Last, we played through the easy and hard version in one sitting - no neck pain whatsoever.
I agree. I`d rather see them experiment with new ideas (that sometimes will fail) than just sticking to what is there already (even if that is really good and people wished for more, faster - but they will always do that).
For the DLC:
I also see why some people dislike it.
For me it was not that big of a deal, i had no problems putting in weird angles and kind of liked the change of mechanics. The two critiques i would have are:
1) Slightly too many holes are simple straight puts
2) Hole 18 is a little bit underwhelming (especially in hardmode)
Nonetheless, i kind of like it and always enjoy a quick round if it`s selected as random course.
P.S.: Has the community named the rat yet?
Edit: It has to be "Splinter"
