Why is there no backwards movement?
Not having backwards movement on the thumbpad is the single most annoying feature of this game. One developer can code this in just a matter of hours (or less!). Please implement this!

Howdy, My Booty!

We have prioritized accessibility hence one controller for gameplay. By using just one controller it does limit the number of options in regards to button mapping. The typical thumbstick down for movement gesture is instead used for collecting lost balls and foxhunt clues.

However, we are always open to considering changes if enough players are requesting such a feature. At this time there has not been a notable amount.

Also maybe an option for head directed movement, rather than having to point the controllers in the direction you want to go in

I don't really understand why VR games generally just don't allow normal gaming movement. Use the left stick to walk and use the right stick to turn. Not even Half-Life Alyx has this option, you can only use that sickening quick turn with the right stick.

But there's a lot of basic problems in most VR stuff. Like not being able to set the scale (I have an IP of 69-70 so everything just looks too big), games not appearing properly straight in front of you even after recalibrating, etc. Most of these issues can be solved with very simple solutions.

Totally agree with the op. Being able to back up when trying to line up a shot would be so much easier then having to turn my wand towards me and pushing forward. I know the pull down on thumbpad allows you to pick up lost balls and clues, but maybe make the grab button that instead.

Mighty Coconut, customers have been asking for this for months now. Normal smooth movement. Can you at least give us an update? Is it something you're working on and is definitely coming? Or have you concluded there's something about how your game is designed where it just won't work?

Edit: for me the problem is that the ball feels slightly too close when you lock onto it so I constantly need to move a smidge backwards to line up, which you seemingly can't do.

I’m glad I’m not alone in this. I was going to start a thread. I always keep hitting down to backup to reorient myself. It’s cumbersome to not be able to move in VR forward and backward. Please implement this as an option. Thank you.

I agree fully. I basically can't play the game in my current setup because of this issue.

Agree.....coming from one of the other (or both) golf sims....it is quite jarring to play WAMG, though everything else is awesome pretty much. Hope they can change or fix the movement aspect.

Because there is no button free for move backwards. Its pretty obvious. Everything is bound dude. Where is backwards going to be? Its not possible and there isn't a solution.

The more you do that, more you get out of your area. It then just becomes way easier to just teleport. Then sideways movement is a concern too.

Yeah limited space is a major factor in this. I play on a mat which is essentially my guardian. If im off my mat, im liable to punch something. All vr games should have locomotion built for this playstyle because it will always be relevant to the majority of players. Having a vr headset alone is a luxury. Having a large open space is a luxury even beyond that. Developers lacked the apathy to understand this when developing the locomotion system.

You can't golf with two controllers. Which is what backwards motion would require. Not with realistic physics. Without having something to physically bind your controllers together, there is no way to hit properly, much less hit with any accuracy at all. Thats also just bad form.

The developers don't have a backup button simply because replacing back up, with collecting balls is selfish. Don't have space? The developer DO have empathy and thought of you. Thats what teleport to ball is for. YOU. A feature most players love isn't going to be removed because you refuse to use the option put into the game for small area's.

The solution is to create an alternate button mapping for players who would rather have fine movement controls over a fancy ball picker upper. There's lots of creative ways to do this.

Locomotion options in vr are very hard to nail. Thus the more options available the better. I simply dislike that the developers havnt paid attention to this as its not hard to create these configurations as I stated in my first post.

Instead they keep making courses that are generic and boring (to me). But that's not what this thread is about. Im not sure why you are defending the devs on this one honestly.
