This game here is actually quite popular and will likely be a good seller for KG. It was top of the charts on DLsite, and a top 10 seller for the entire year of 2020 despite releasing in June. It also trends pretty high on other sites. There's been a lot of talk in the discord about this game, and the steam game forum here has a lot of posts for a game that isn't even out yet. Probably more than any other upcoming game.
Just so you know, if we're going by Steam reviews, then the most popular game Kagura Games has ever released was a slice of life game. Summer Memories has by far the most user reviews than anything else, and with over 90% being very positive.
But there's no way to actually know the real sales data for any specific game. Only Kagura Games knows what sells, but you can sort of get an idea of what that might be by what ends up getting "fast tracked" on being localized.
Steam doesn't always tell the whole picture though either. I'd like to think that at least some portion of the fanbase is buying games directly from the Kagura Games Store now. They also sell on Mangagamer, JAST USA, FAKKU and a few other stores.
I honestly really hope a lot of people are buying directly from the Kagura Games Store, because KG and the Developers deserve the most money possible. I know I'll never buy something from Steam ever again, and I think it's kind of disgusting that they just rule with a tyrannical hammer, while collecting a 30% revenue split for doing basically nothing.
If I buy an adult game I always buy on the store of whoever brought it over, because they're responsible for it being localized and deserve the most support. So Mangagamer releases I always buy there. Kagura Games releases are always on the Kagura Games Store. Same thing with JAST USA and so on.
I much prefer the turn based or action focused adult games. However, I guess it's good that there is a little something for everyone.
Next one I'm really looking forward to would be either Apostle: Rebellion or Demon Queen Melissa.
Apostle: Rebellion isn't even out yet in Japan, but I do wonder if we might see a close to simultaneous release on that one.
Demon Queen Melissa is being held up by the tyrant, and who knows when that's coming out. I'm hoping if they can't get it resolved soon they'll just forget a Steam release and release it on the other stores.
That might be one of the most facepalm worthy comments I've read in a while. Another "armchair" developer / creator here sharing his thorough knowledge with us all...
The amount of effort put into something has nothing to do with how easy a particular engine is to work with. Unreal Engine is very easy to work with by design, so does that mean something like Final Fantasy 7 Remake took little effort, because Square has good artists and programmers?
What is a "few" in your eyes also? A few technically means 3. A couple is 2, and several is 4. How many sales do you think they need for a "commercial" win? If you spent a solid year or more of your life making a game, what kind of "commercial win" would you need for your time and effort?
Just for reference - the developer of this particular game here took two years between releases. They might not be working full time that entire two years on the game, but I bet it's pretty close. Even Acerola who's a well oiled machine when it comes to created these kinds of games still basically takes a solid year between releases.
No matter what you think of RPG Maker it's still a lot of work, for what is a small group of people max.
Even Kagura Games has multiple people who work very hard on all of these releases so they can be brought to us localized. A lot of effort goes into them on all sides, and for you to just toss it aside because you think it's an easy low effort "RPG Maker" game is downright insulting to everyone involved.
Even though gameplay in hentai games is annoying to me, I can atleast still see why people like it, but turn based rpg maker combat ? I don't get it.
I guess different strokes for different folks? lol
See, I don't get games like this. Buy hey, everyone is different and if you wait long enough...Kagura will have something for you.
The REASON is less about genre and more about quality.
I would say close to half the Kagura Games are not even turn-based RPG or it's not the main gameplay concept. Early on a lot were but they expanded their repertoire lately. They have a couple Slice of Life like this one, where you have to get jobs to either get money or unlock h-scene.
There are a couple other translators with very similar turn-based basic rpg maker games with hentai tacked on but not Kagura. They have some but it's not the majority and they usually have a little something unique. "Detective Girl of the Steam City" for example has turn-based battles but that's only a very small part of the game and not the generic "go into a zone with monsters, get to the boss and lose for a sex scene then go to another zone."
To put it very plainly, I just enjoy H RPGS.
Apparently, SOMEONE enjoys them or they wouldn't keep pumping them out...
