Extremely shallow RTS. Not worth the price at all.

All the factions are identical, just different skin / theme.
Only 2 units, builder and soldier.
Only 4 buildings. HQ, Barracks, Resource and Tower.

Because of this, gameplay is always just "make more dudes than the other guy faster". No unit synergies or strategies.

Star Maiden Chronicles is not a shallow RTS but is a "JRTS" or "Japanese style RTS" that does not resemble most western RTS games in the market. If you compare this game to western RTS, you will find no reason to play. Star Maidens Chronicle is a RTS game that aims for fighting-game-like simplicity and conciseness in RTS. This game is perfect if you like RTS with conciseness and simplicity rather than the complexity that most western RTS games tend to be like. Let me explain,

There is like 10+ civilizations in Star Maidens Chronicle. Each has 4 kinds of buildings (HQ, tower, barrack, supply) and 1 worker and 1 attacking unit. Each civilizations are all different, and the differences between civilizations are appearance, HP, attack range of attacking unit/tower/HQ (some HQ can attack depending on civil), movement speed, attack & defense points and size.

Civilizations are structured like a food chain, where one civilization is strong against certain others but also weak against different others, I believe that choosing a civilization at the start is a crucial that determines who would wins if and only if both players are exactly equally skilled when it comes to PvP. Therefore, in multiplayer mode, there are features to randomly select civilizations and also feature to hide one's own civilization until it is actually discovered in the game (you can hide your civilization without selecting random). Multiplayer likely supports 1v1 up to 3v3 max. Thus, it requires you to change strategies based on the opponent's civilization. With over 10+ civilizations, each with different abilities for their units and buildings, this aspect can become intricate and require you to play strategically (this is what you have to be good in order to play this game very well, the skill).

Structurally, it's clearly a RTS with simplicity and conciseness. In fact, I personally find it very enjoyable to play it with a casual mindset just like how you play fighting games because of its extreme simplicity akin to fighting games even if it is RTS while you also need to change how you fight depending on the opponent's civilization, just like how you change your fighting style depending on the enemy character in a fighting game. Each multiplayer match in this game actually ends quite fast just like many Japanese fighting games.

In the future I hope it adds a couple of more units or buildings, but probably not too much as it also needs to maintain the concept of fighting game-like simplicity in RTS genre while expanding more civilizations with different stats (which is equivalent to additional characters if it was a fighting game), thus for me it is unique RTS game so far that does not follow most of western RTS games we know, rather it follows Japanese fighting game style with an RTS twist.

It would be also good idea if it can actually add a unique hero, which possibly comes with MOBA-like unique skill, per each civilization that you can use in a game. Also for precise control, this game needs to add "move attack" feature and also fix input-delay (take some microseconds like 0.3~0. 5seconds after you command). And I see towers in this game are underpowered in both damage and range so that it needs a slight buff. I even saw that there is a unit that has higher range than tower, which makes towers completely useless. Personally I think the stats for towers I think it need to be affected by each evolution stage.

And most importantly the reason why people think the game is shallow RTS is because it uses unappropriate UI and not enough explanation upon each civilization. This game might be better to adopt Guilty Gear Strive-like UI so that it look like fighting game (because this game shows a representative character of a civilization rather than civilization itself when selecting a civilization to play), then briefly explaining what is good and bad of each civilization when selecting character (civilization) so that it doesn't look like a shallow RTS as there exists well-explained differences between each civilization.

Anyway, if this game successfully blends the genre of fighting games, which Japan excels in like Street Fighter, Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken, with Western real-time strategy (RTS), striving for simplicity unlike the complexity of Western RTS while still demanding depth and complexity for players to build their skills, then I believe this game truly embodies the essence of JRTS (Japanese RTS). Leaderboard ranking and implementation of quick match system will be necessary as well.

On a side note, this game supports both co-op and pvp in multiplayer.
