Wagon and being able to pick up the reins to drive it.

I'm using a PC to play the game and am wondering if there's a command to get into a wagon so you pick up the reins and sit down to drive it? I can call my bounty hunter wagon and after jumping on top I hit "space" to have he pick and the reins to drive it. It's not working for the small cart. I started a trader role and it's not working for the small carriage. What's up? I have no problems getting on the wagon but can't seem to get on it and drive it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

face the wagon on the side, looking at where you will normally sit. Tap the E key.
Don't hold the E key down, or you will just go into rest mode.
