(Be warned, if you are playing on PC, you will have to create solo sessions. You will NOT be able to play the game otherwise because of hackers, modders, cheaters and griefers.)
All of the roles are good for solo players in terms of gameplay, depending on the person's interest. If you're looking to earn the most money & gold for your time spent, these are the roles I would do in order:
Free-roam/Blood Money missions + Trader, Moonshine, Collector, Bounty Hunter, Naturalist.
The Trader role is designed to be the first role new players get, and everything that is part of that like hunting & collecting supplies allow players to explore the map while doing the tasks. Different animals with different values are available everywhere to find, and the role makes a lot of money when fully upgraded. I recommend all new players start with this.
The 2nd is Moonshine. It's also very easy but makes a lot of money like the Trader role when all equipment are upgraded. Just like the Trader role, players make money from delivering goods. Both of these roles are mostly passive and allow players to do other things in the game while waiting for the goods to be ready to sell. Once sold, players earn money but not gold.
Because the roles are active in the background, players can play Free-roam missions on the map in the mean time. Those will pay little money but also pay the same amount of gold just like any other paid roles. All gold paid in the game are based on time spent (see below).
Just doing those above would keep you busy constantly earning money/gold, you won't need anymore to make money/gold. They would just be extra for fun.
The 3rd role I would get is the Collector role. By this time, you've probably collected a lot of random treasures, and getting the Collector role allows you to sell them to Madam Nazar for a lot of money and also unlock the ability to dig up treasures around the map.
Like jethro mentioned above, I recommend playing in a private lobby. GL, have fun 😊
Gold payouts per time spent:
Under 2 minutes = 0.04 Gold
2-6 minutes = 0.08 Gold
6-10 minutes = 0.12 Gold
10-12 minutes = 0.24 Gold
12-15 minutes = 0.32 Gold
15-20 minutes = 0.36 Gold
20-25 minutes = 0.40 Gold
25-30 minutes = 0.44 Gold

This parts important if you want to maximize the money/gold/XP you earn while performing these tasks. :)
I set a Google-timer for 13 minutes every time I started one of these missions.
Yes, it means you'll often be standing around waiting for the timer to go off, but you can fill this time with fishing, hunting, gathering herbs, or just endlessly killing hostile NPCs to earn XP.
