No animals or npc

For the past 2 days or so every time i load into rdo there are animals and npc for about 1 min before they all despawn. If i join a new session, same thing. Game is unplayable. Cant even start missions unless i do it within 1 min of joining a new session. No clue whats happening

I contacted Rockstar as well. Luckily the call lasted all of 10 minutes and not 41 minutes lol. Anyway I was told a new free mod menu is the culprit. The person I spoke to said Rockstar is aware of it and a team is working on a fix. He said the mod menu upon being loaded can cause wildlife and NPCs to not spawn. Block access to your horse and stables plus block access to your Moonshine shack and Harriet. He said any one of those or all of those can be disrupted automatically upon loading the mod menu. So there you have it. Rockstar is aware but who knows how long it'll take them to solve the problem. Based on previous experience it could be sometime in the fall before we see a fix lol.

That's useful information for everyone who is observant and keeping an opened mind to understand the big picture, in order to solve problems.

But it's a waste to share to specific people; it will fall on deaf ears. False confidence, together with lack of information, deserve the downfall they’re currently having and continue to have 🤷‍♀️

I've been limping along forcing private sessions and launching bounty missions and fast travelling to get them back. Today, none of that was working. When launching a bounty mission, I got an error message saying "Cutscene has ended early due to content running". Maybe the lack of NPCs and animals is because it launches us into a nonexistant cutscene by default?? I hope R* fixes this sometime soon, but I'm not holding my breath,

For those with this issue, don't listen to anyone, including me. Create a private lobby using Startup.meta and test for yourself. Everything works as supposed to -- Bounty Missions, animal and NPCs spawning, etc.

Forcing a solo lobby using port block will not fix your issue; I've explained why in the 1st page. GL

I'm having the same issues and I'm glad I'm not alone. I sent video evidence over to rockstar. They told me to verify the files on steam which didn't fix the problem. My game was working fine before the update. I've never played in solo lobby's just public.

Have you clerd your cache files and re verifid your game, try this and then put the file in the folder.

You need to save the text file as "All files." That's important...or it won't work.

This is also a good step to do before going into a private lobby to help your game run without problematic files and more smoothly. Once you've done this and are in a private lobby, your game should have no issues.


You can find the cache files here:
C:\Users\Your PC's Name\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings

You can safely delete all files except "system.xml" (that's your video settings).

It's almost certainly cheaters and their mod menus causing this.

Only known way to fix this is to create a private session using the steps shown in the above videos.

If you're disappointed with the current state of the game I encourage you to leave a negative Steam review.

Have been having the same issue for a month. I ended up doing the solo lobby method like someone on here recommended and I was able to play the game properly again. I let Rockstar know mulitple times and they gave me the runaround of saying it was my wifi and then to just keep rebooting into different lobbies. Obviously it's a well known problem since everyone seems to be dealing with it. hopefully they fix it but until then solo lobby it is!
