Delete everything from the Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings folder (except system.xml) and the Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Profiles folder your profile (except KeyMappings).

We launch the game, refuse cloud saves, adjust the brightness, subtitles and exit the game through HOME.

Next, in the launcher settings, enable cloud saves, launch RDR and select local save files, do not use cloud saves.
I tried a slightly less delete-happy variation, of what was suggested.

In the "Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Profiles\Whateverprofilenumber\"
Make a copy of the file that is simply named "Player." Save this copy incase this doesn't work.
Then simply delete the regular Player file and restart the game.

If it doesn't work, you'll have the backup for trying other options.

I do this too:

Specifically delete the Player file found within your profile id folder inside the Documents RDR2 folder.

When you relaunch the launcher it will ask you to replace from cloud or use local missing file.

You want to click local: missing or deleted so that when you launch online your progressed character file is fixed of suspected corruption.
