Possible fix to Red Dead Online's weird "installscript.vdf" installation download?

So I've gotten Red Dead Online as a gift, but when I tried to install the game, it downloaded 1.22Kb and gave me only "installscript.vdf".
Looking around at all kinds of forum topics, it was either an issue with the installation, or with the steam streams.
Since I didn't know which one finally was the solution, I am making this post on what progress I went through in the hopes that you might extrapolate a fix if you experience the same issue.

First I tried
Uninstall && re-install
that didn't seem to work, so I closed steam entirely, and restarted, uninstalling and reinstalling again.
Again this didn't seem to work. So all the forums gave me a lot of variations on how this could be done and fix it, but still nothing.

Eventually I had the installscript in my library. I deleted the folder manually from ./steam/steamapps/common the folder was named "Red Dead Redemption 2". I deleted it, and then restarted my pc. I didn't uninstall it from steam itself.
When I restarted my pc, and opened up steam it had an "update" of 625kb waiting in my library. So I ran the update, and finally it started downloading 118GB worth of RDO

So I hope this might help you guys too.
If this isn't a fix, then I assume it was based on "keep on trying because the steam services are too overloaded due to the sale"
