[ SOLVED ] Can't play game .. Steam failed to initialize.
Steam failed to initialize. Please verify that the steam client is running and try again
unable to launch game, please try reinstalling the game

Why ?, please help

Confirmed, i found a solution! 🌟 Follow steps below:

In Steam, right click RDO and click Properties. In General tab, in Launch Options field, type in: -steamAppId=1404210

It should launch the the Rockstar launcher at least.

Then go to RDR2 Steam Apps folder, make sure that both the RDR2.exe and RDR2 Launcher are running as administrator. You right click on both, go to Properties, then Capability, and select run as administrator.

Launched the game! Hopefully this works for more players. 🙏

The Rockstar Support, has said clear the steam cache, i had done it but the issue is already there, Rockstar has patched the game broken. They need to fix this problem, i have wrote them that the same issue is already there.

I tried contacting support, apparently they can try to verify that you have the game purchased and can launch it through their launcher, no idea if it will work haven't had a response to it. Hella pissed tho I just wanted to be a silly cowboy after doing irl ♥♥♥♥ man.

Yep, submitting the ticket is really only good to get it on their radar so they can finally admit its their issue and not our computers. We just need to report enmasse and overload them until support complains to the devs.

I full on deleted steam and reinstalled it and it didnt work!! I factory reset my whole computer and it didnt work! please fix this COCSTAR!!!! :steamthumbsdown:

yeah i just got told to uninstall the game files in the pc its self, and to reinstall " Remove any remaining Rockstar Games Launcher files



Once the uninstaller has completed, delete all of the following folders: Note: Do not delete any other folders or files as you may lose game data.



C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social Club

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Launcher

C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher

C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club

C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club

Restart your computer "

Hmmm, fun one. Played last night, no problems, tried today and same issues as everyone else.

Fired up R* Launcher... RDO is not listed under games BUT RDR2 is. Problem is, I bought RDR2 through fanatical.com some years ago and it was for a key through the R* launcher, it WAS NOT for steam...

Clicks on "Store" RDO is there, clicks on RDO, Says its is Owned, I click on "go to play" and it takes me to RDR2 with a button to "Play on steam" then when I click on that, it says I do not own any licences.

Yes, I bought RDO on steam when it was $5 essentially for the steam integration.

What you up to R*?

I have a similar situation as others.
4 accounts: 2 RDR2 (full game), 2 RDO standalone.
Only the accounts with the full game can initialize the game and play. Those with RDO only get error after error. Not able to play.
Seems like an RDO standalone error has been caused by Rockstar and will most likely require a hotfix by Rockstar.
We'll have to be patient.

yeah just got a sorry, then they said they will move the convo to email, and never got back to me
have the same error, been in chat with what i think may be a robot in rockstar support, telling me a host of different things like disabling my antivirus and firewall, unistalling rockstar launcher, closing all programs with the task manager, verifying files through steam, clearing steam cache, i keep telling them its more than just me but im pretty sure its a bot and doesn't fully acknowledge or copy paste reply with a new way, i flat out told him im not turning off my #$%!n antivirus
