[ SOLVED ] Can't play game .. Steam failed to initialize.
Steam failed to initialize. Please verify that the steam client is running and try again
unable to launch game, please try reinstalling the game

Why ?, please help

Fix for Rockstars Launcher Jan 31 update mistake

Confirmed, i found a solution! 🌟 Follow steps below:

In Steam, right click RDO and click Properties. In General tab, in Launch Options field, type in: -steamAppId=1404210

It should launch the the Rockstar launcher at least.

Then go to RDR2 Steam Apps folder, make sure that both the RDR2.exe and RDR2 Launcher are running as administrator. You right click on both, go to Properties, then Capability, and select run as administrator.

Launched the game! Hopefully this works for more players. 🙏

you musst watch in your steam settings how you run steam when its in the win7 or 8 compatibility mode the game dosent run

No idea if this helps, but I have 2 Steam accounts, one has RDR2 and the other is just RDO, only RDO is giving this error whereas I can still play online with the full game. :steamsad:

Not sure that helps at all unless someone might be able to work out what they screwed up from that and a possible workaround.

Or it could be a Rockstar cunning Baldrick-type plan to try and get people to buy the full game. :steamfacepalm:

Same happening here !! Just hope its fixed !! Glad im not the only one whos having the issue as i thought it was my computer !!

I get failure to initialize as well. Uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted, restarted, ...nothing works.

nothing will work. it was borked after the patch today. we just have to wait till they fix it

Seems like the issue is RDO related, apparently those who own RDR2 story mode can still join in, All the people i asked that own Story mode can play, those who only have RDO and start their game through "Red dead online" on steam get the error. I could be wrong but so far thats my conclusion, rockstars update broke something.

Same here.
2 Accounts, one is online Version, this dont work on 2 PCs.
The Ultimate Edition work on Steam.
I reinstalled the Game, Steam, Rocketlauncher.... nothing works.
I never buyed such buggy Game bevore.
Many Cheaters, craches, bugs, for this we spend our money....
