Rockstar in infinite wisdom decided this "defensive mode" was superior; where you could still be ganked by players miles higher in stats than you, and all you could do was parley, temporary making your character go full passive to your attacker only.

Taken from Rockstar's announcement, March 19, 2019:
"they'll be able to dEfEnD tHeMsElVeS", i.e. forced to defend themselves, box your gaming ethos into a corner and play our way now. Unlike GTA's passive, where you are fully protected from online harassment. A wonder if they add defensive mode or passive mode to GTA 6? The most optimum way to trigger MTX is offer the least amount of protection for people. Look how GTA Online started out for evidence and company M.O.
Rockstar wanted people to get into gunfights, not sit around in a saloon and make friends. Thanks to this attitude and other factors like 0 anti cheat / updates, they shot RDO dead.
I sincerely thank you a lot for awnsering my question
- No Passive Mode.
- Can't skip narrative cut-scenes.
- Can't adjust the difficulty of most story missions.
- Can't customize PvP matches.
- No options for Text Chat.
- No Private Lobbies.
Red Dead Online is a MASSIVE down-grade from GTA Online. And Rockstar wonders why it isn't as profitable. :/
You forgot no anti cheat
All the other features I mentioned GTA does have but Red Dead Online does not; I’m not sure why Rockstar neglected to include them. Perhaps they wanted RDO to fail. :/
Like I said above, the absence of those features really makes Red Dead Online feel like a down-grade from GTA.
Fingers crossed they add those features back into GTA6 ALONG WITH an effective anti-cheat; but this is Rockstar we’re talking about, both GTA and RDO are absolutely saturated with cheaters, so I’m not holding my breath. :P

Edit:
Back in July 2022, when Rockstar announced they were pulling devs off of RDO to focus on GTA6 they said:
“Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series — understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations…”
Maybe I’m over-analyzing this, but I always felt that last bit was a disparaging-remark towards the RDO community. It felt like they were saying: What’s the mater? Our cowboy game wasn’t good enough for you? WOW, there’s no pleasing you folks…
And, yeah. When basic quality-of-life features that were included in GTA are missing from RDO, it does disappoint the playerbase. o_o
Before Rockstar tries exceeding our expectations, could they at least try to meet them based on what was included in their previous online title?
lol, or maybe I’m just looking-too-much into that quote. Ugh! I’m so disappointed with RDO; I hope they get things right in GTA6. @_@
