Startup.meta banned?

Hi guys,

I have reinstalled the game via the Rockstar Launcher, I don't have the game on Steam.

I did the startup.meta thing because I don't want to play with cheaters, and it works, but after changing some ingame graphics settings which required a restart, I got a message that apparently they have detected something in the game directory that is not allowed and my social club account has no license to play, all I could do was quit the game, no other options. I can't remember what the message was exactly, but something like that.

After being thrown out by the game, I restarted and it works like normal, no weird message that I'm not allowed to play.

Anyone have experience with this? Is it really safe to use?

Mine also gives that error: I have to login to steam then close down steam entirely. Then login to launcher launch game. it will say the no licence thing. After that I can start from steam.

Glad you guys aren't having problems with this. I got scared yesterday and removed the startup.meta file, and strangely enough I haven't encountered malicious cheaters so far. Many obvious cheaters with levels in the tens of thousands, but they weren't targeting other players.

Been using it for a year, halloween pass, event bonuses work, plus best of all, no cheaters, chinese honey trap modders, griefers or treasure baiters. Animals spawn correctly, treasure maps reliably. If Rockstar can release their game with pirated files, then its totally fine to modify the game to suit your own needs too.

Hello, I'm trying to use the startup.meta file, but it continually puts me in public lobbies / servers. I dropped the file into the 'data' folder. Is that the correct location?

Works, so well in fact you can remove it at any time to join a public lobby because I do at time miss being in a "Good" lobby where there is no modder's. ALSO playing this way is wild specially for a fairly new player like me (200 Hours). I see much more animal's tons of white dot side quest I never seens. The game works while still connected to online so you lose no online progess, The game works as it was intended too.
