Yes, those chests were spawned in by a cheater.

Did you open any? If you did, your account is likely at risk of getting banned during the next ban-wave.

If any chests were opened you should immediately contact Rockstar Support, explain you were tricked into opening “cheated chests,” and ask if they could please remove any cheated gold/money from your account.

A first-time ban lasts for 30 days and your character gets deleted. A second ban is permanent.

you'll be fine won't get in the ban wave just avoid them in the future, anyone would spam them if they saw it thinking its a bug

It really depends on how many you opened.

If you only opened 1 or 2 you should be fine.
if you opened 5+ you might be in trouble.

Rockstar Support can be reached at this link:

(Or Google: Rockstar Support)

Rockstar should really be going after the cheaters who are spawning the chests, but sadly they have a history of banning the people who've opened them. :/

Hopefully your accounts fine, but if you did open a bunch of cheated chests I'd be tempted to contact Rockstar. A politely-worded support ticket can go a long way. :)

what poisonblade said yes.

and: https://support.rockstargames.com/articles/360044352653/Treasure-Spawn-Abuse-in-Red-Dead-Online
make of that what you will.

i would report it,
just to be sure that they know you didn't mean to accept cheated gold or items.
and that you don't mind cooperating by allowing rockstar to remove the gold etc.

+1 What Poisonblade said. Contact Rockstar and explain. If not you might get your account banned. The silly thing is if you do get banned it doesn't happen immediately so you know what you did wrong, Rockstar will put you on a kill list, and then up to months later pull the trigger and ban multiple accounts all at once. I've been banned this way and I have no idea what I did wrong, Rockstar refused to explain. I know I ignorantly received hacked money when I didn't know it was a hack. : / It's the only conceivable offence I can think I committed.

I like it how Rockstar is fine with hackers exploding people and there was even this:

https://www.gamingbible.co.uk/news/red-dead-redemption-2-players-horrified-at-racist-hackers-20220322

But if you spawn treasure chests and take them (or let other people take them), then they do something about it.

I thinks it’s because they have ways to identify cheated gold and money on a character. Because it’s easy to spot the offenders it’s easy to ban them. Also, Rockstar doesn’t want people cheating gold/money because they monetizes the sale of Gold Bars.

I don’t believe they have robust systems in place to identify when cheaters are blowing people up or causing other problems. All they can rely on is screen-recorded evidence provided by victims, and even then it can sometimes be tricky to identify the cheater because cheaters can change their character name to pin the blame on other players. @_@

It’s unfortunate RDO doesn’t have a better anti-cheat system to combat all forms of cheating. Hopefully Rockstar’s can solve this problem in their future online games. :(

I guess that would make sense. Still funny though that if you "threaten" Rockstar by circumventing gold bars via cheats, they issue bans but if you blow up people with cheats, it's fine.

But yeah, you got a point there. The cheating/griefing is so bad that you can't even see who is hacking at times (they won't show up as hostile in the game) unless they directly confront you or something.

I also hope that Rockstar does implement better anti-cheat or similar for RDO and their games but they have such nonexistent communication and transparency with their community that it hurts.

RDO doesn't even get that many updates anymore, not even good ones. The last time they tried, they rewarded some tan pants for doing legendary bounty missions and the pants aren't even available for a limited time if I'm not mistake. Really sad.
