And I gradually realized I was wasting my time staring at the pretty scenery while cripps made a new goods shipment and hackers came by every 20 mins or so and killed me in various cowardly ways and I changed sessions and waited for cripps and the next cheater some more.
I log on occasionally and do dailies for 2 or 3 days, and a few bounties, until I remember the game is mindnumbingly boring, there's literally nothing to do with the gold I am making anyway, and leave again for 4 months.
I got the game on a deep discount 2 xmas's ago, and can't really complain. I got maybe 200 hours of okay play out of it. And around 100 hours of wasting time on various bugs, like trader resupply missions that bug out repeatedly, or infinite loading screens and finally realizing I need to terminate the program after waiting 5 minutes.
Another role would see me back for hundreds of hours ...
So the fact you got 1000 hours out of RDO which hasn't had MMO level support (nor has GTA Online) is a testament to just how good the game is. If Rockstar does nothing with it at this point that is sad but; you got 1000 hours out of it. You 100% got your moneys worth. You paid (assuming you didn't buy gold) less than 7 cents for each hour played.
Another valid complaint is that the developers are not invested in protecting their game from hackers. Depending where u are based, playing during the weekends can be a misery!
And while GTA earns Rockstar millions of dollars a day, RDO is lagging behind - but I believe this is also due to Rockstar not continuing to invest in RDO. RDO was released 6 years AFTER GTA!
It has a large playerbase, but the most loyal players are dropping out.
YOu can't convince me - with the huge amount of money Rockstar is making off their games, a bit more investment in RDO would not only reward their fanbase for it's loyalty, but would be a sound business decision. I am not calling for GTA levels of support, but there still is a lot of potential in RDO which is untapped.
Atleast it was worth the 5 euro i spent
Ok so it doesn't get the same attention. It never was going to. GTA when it started was highly PvP focused and had sports cars and crazy weapons.
The big difference is of course the Mission Editor.
This means that GTA Online was going to attract a specific kind of player and keep them engaged with just releasing skinned cars. Over time they just went over the top.
RDO can't have that. Unless they bring in a flying car with missiles, RDO was always going to be a less profitable game. Rockstar loves the profit. So it makes sense they pulled resources from other games. That is just the reality. And now a bunch of entitled gamers are constantly complaining the game doesn't have new content and they only got 1000 hours of play out of it.
I put in 50 hours... I haven't touched more of the content yet. That is more than some AAA titles. I will likely get 200+ hours from it. That is all one should have expected from an online game like this.
Would I like to see RDO get more content. (may horse thieving as they literally tell you that is something that can be done in the first mission of the game) BUT... if it doesn't it has a fair bit of content. Not as much as GTA online no... and I think it is delusional to ever think that it would.
I get the what you compare it too... I was trying to not call RDO players whiny little brats complaining they didn't get a ice cream scoop as big as their brother.
S**t, did a corporate Rockstar bean counter enter the rdo steam discussion page?
There is plenty of already existing Story Mode content Rockstar have chosen from the get-go not to add into RDO. Why you might add, since by your own admission they love profit, right? Unlock them for RDO and slap on exorbitant Gold and RDO$ prices for them. If i must spell out a few obvious ones; Wagons, Carts, Horses (a lot are Story Mode locked), The M1899 pistol. How about some previous Outlaw Pass cosmetics cycled through Madam Nazar's store? No...? RDO can't have that. /s
With only 50 hours, you have very little to mouth off about over other players here. Were you around during beta? Who are you to call these consumers entitled when they never even had content to begin with? We had to wait until Rockstar took a decision to add Frontier Pursuits and even then there were still flaws in the design and coding patches. Were you around during the Naturalist bug? FFFFFF errors ring any bells? I think you are the one who is projecting entitlement.
Not really. A developer that creates one of the biggest franchises of all time should be held to a higher standard. How they treat their customers is disgusting. But it is a reality, sure, and more and more customers seem more than happy to bend over for the scraps of content they receive like good little mice in their chosen skinner box. It's good to keep quiet isn't it? To never bring up glaring issues customers see flaws in. I'd love that world.... /s
All I see is a whiny ring banger that doesn't seem to understand who Rockstar is. Honestly I had a whole post written out... but I just realized I have better things to do then argue with a sad self entitled child whining that big brother GTA got a bigger piece of cake.
The bottom line is Rockstar owes you 0. zilch, nada. Stop acting like you spending 70 dollars 3 years ago entitles you to a dozen or more devs spending hundreds if not thousands of hours of time adding stuff for you for free.
I was gaming in the 80s as well. Atari 2600, Sega Master System, Heck I played Double Dragon, Ms Pac Man and 1942 in arcades. My Grandparents literally ran one. I understood circuit boards before I good do my multiplication tables. So like you I've seen many companies come and go. However I don't generally make big long posts saying I'm leaving until Rockstar gives me the same amount of Ice Cream as GTA got.
Your right to leave. But whining about it makes you seem like a child. It be nice if Rockstar might actually support and expand the game. It is sad they haven't. Given the crunches to get other games out (games that are going to make them money to justify the resource allocation) it makes sense why the last 2 years as seen very little. It's business. Frankly. You likely bought RDR2. You paid for it. It was developed and your money paid for that development. You didn't pay anything extra of RDO. RDO has to make cash to justify extra development. If it doesn't make enough to do that it won't be developed. The Fact RDO was never a huge success is likely why it hasn't seen much development. (And one can argue Rockstar is at fault for that) It is successful enough to keep going and let people play but not so much so that Rockstar still said stop development and work on these GTA products so we can get them out. After that we will reevaluate RDO. (I obviously don't know this for sure... but it is almost certainly what went on)... Of course the GTA Online team kept working because they still make a stupid amount from the sale of shark cards.
RDO like free to play games need whales. Whales need to feel special and over powered. While a level 200 that lives for PvP will kill me a lower level with no interest really in PvP it isn't so unfair that it is impossible for me to land a kill. While in GTA online they can kill with near impunity in a number of ways if they spend enough cash. Rockstar's Reputation and the constant whining keeps many others away. The Griefers and the Modders keep people away. The People that specifically target and harass people in defensive mode for daring to say I'm not interested in PvP right now... the people that will just use a mod menu to kill or spawn people. All of this is just turns people off.
When you mix it all together Rockstar made mistakes in the game development particularly no solo or private lobbies and the lack of the missions creator to provides user created content. When mixed with the Toxic players that Rockstar games attract... and you have a perfect recipe for keeping people away. It goes further of course. The balance in the game means that Whales won't drop as much money as easily as they will in GTA online.
All of this is the reason why RDO isn't as popular and as such isn't getting developed as actively as GTA Online. But the whiny fan base complaining that GTA got updates and RDO didn't basically feel on deaf ears because it wasn't never abandonment... it was a business decision. It could have been a temporary decision. It may have been intended to be a temporary one. It may have been intended to be permanent. Of course the "fans" crying I want more ice cream, may have made it a permanent one too. Only time will tell.
But if you are 50 and based on your profile you are playing on average 1-2 hours of video games a night... maybe spend time with your wife rather than expecting more free content that costs 10s of thousands to produce. Of course I'm being generous assuming you are still married if you are playing on average 1-2 hours a video games a night.
