Are the bolas worth it?
They seem so oddly expensive, as if someone messed up and put a 0 behind it by accident, 3 bucks makes a lot more sense to me then....30....

I mean you throw it at your bounty target, rush them to bound them before they break out, you get shot by AI and die...and now you lsot your bolas, you were only going to make like 20 dollars from it so you are already down before you even finish that mission.

and the risk of missing with them is pretty big, I miss and lose hatchets etc all the time but those are about 5 bucks so eh, ill take it, but those bolas...30 dollars per....that is just crazy.

or am I missing something?

Bolas are very good! if you are running to catch a bouynty they are a must. Against players they are good too.

Just wait until you get to the 170$ bolas, that's expensive. Those I am skipping though.

They are really effective, just make sure you're within a decent range to your target. If they're on a horse, knocking them off with the bolas gives you a little more time to subdue them. I mostly use them during the free roam Day of Reckoning game

They are good

Also paint it black works with them

Standard bolas are great, and are by far the best way of dealing with a bounty target that is on a horse - throw it, knock them off the horse, and then run up to hogtie them (and automatically recover the bola).

Be careful about waiting too long to hogtie someone who has been hit by a bola, because eventually they will break free and destroy the bola. (You have a decent amount of time to do so, just don't get distracted by a protracted gunfight or fistfight with other NPCs.)

They're not a consumable so you get them back, therefore $30 ain't too much.

Well thats kinda what I mean, you might as well just ride a bit closer and just grab them with your lasso which you wont lose if you miss.

There is just so much chance for you to waste 30 bucks with those I feel.

You only get them back if you pick them up again, throw them and get killed and they are gone, throw them and miss and the targets bolts 90 degrees somewhere else, well stop and get off your horse to get your bolas potentially losing the target, or continue and you just lost 30 dollars.

It just seems all risk and basically no reward to me.

When you have like 1000 bucks in your pocket, 30 dollars is nothing

Once you're level 10 in bounty hunting, you really shouldn't be crying about $30. Just use deadeye to aim them if you're worried about missing so much. Money is pretty easy to grind in RDRO.

The first bolas with the low $ price worth it. It will take a while untill you get mastered with it.

My advice :

Craft the lvl 2 or lvl 3 Yellow Tonics for Health or use the lvl 1 that you can buy from Fence.
Before engaging with more than 1 bounty target, use your Health Tonic, throw bolas on both target let's say and rush to Hogtie them fast (from the 1st target to the last target). This way you will not die, will not lose 20 or 30$ per boulas.

If you wanna do solo missions with 4 or 6 targets, use the Bow or Improved Bow with Tracking Arrows but do the same mechanic like I suggested above. Tracking Arrows allows the target not to run fast because it will train the Stamina Circle. This way you have time to catch and hogtie all the targets.

But remember, even with Reinforced Lasso, a hogtie-ed target can release if you stay too much doing kills or running around. To be sure, untill you call for your Bounty Wagon, just kick with empty hands the target that is on the floor and hogtie-ed untill you see KNOCKED OUT. This way nobody will escape.

It's just a matter of practice to use the Tonics and Run towards the target.

Another fast way to hogtie a target is to bring the Lasso into your hands, run towards the target and push F. You will see a cool Rugby strategy of trowing the target fast to the ground.

But still, you just have to watch out for your health, if many NPCs are shooting at you, it will drain fast even the Lvl 3 Tonics.

Hope it helps,
Cheers !

I am over level 10, that does not change you only get about 20 - 40 per bounty, so losing 30 is a lot...

also yeah IF you run paint it black sure.

idk, the argument that its nothing for someone who has thousands, sure so then its like inflation in GTA:O where a simple Volkswagen Beetle will run you multiple millions of ingame dollars...but in that case 3 bucks is nothing either so..why not just make it 3?
Cog Mar 2, 2021 @ 9:58am
It's not about the price or effectiveness. In both regards, it seems too pricey for that. However, is it fun to bola someone? Absolutely

oh no doubt, no doubt, but that is why I use cleavers and hatchets etc, fun to use but I do lose them all the time, either I die or forget to get them again when the chaos starts and that is fine because those are only 5 to 8 dollars, but 30...that is something else
StormPL Mar 2, 2021 @ 1:55pm
Just kill bounty every time, catching them is pointless, differences in payouts are minimal
