A guy posted a video playing with his sister here in a thread early 2020. In the video he had unknowingly "befriended" a menu user and were collecting herbs. The guy took his eye off his sis for a minute and in that moment the menu user killed his sister in one hit. Noticing this, he asked what she did and replied "she looked at me funny". Jokingly, the guy's sister said "yeah she does that" shrugging off his offensive action. After a minute or two he noticed she had become upset with her brother for defending this new "friend" over voice chat, and then asked the new guy to apologize because she didn't want to play anymore. He calmly says to the guy's sis "You wanna see your desktop?" The guy's sister goes "what do you mean by that?" The guy repeats himself. "Do you wanna see your desktop?" Guy's sis goes "I don't know what you mean" The guy says "I have a mod menu - do you want to look at your desktop" He mumbles something back and within 3 seconds, his game closes.
It overloads your GPU with game assets. Many menus have this included as standard.
it happened to me hundreds of times and each time it was in the presence of "near or far" of a cheater.
Uhm they can crash your game. it's been reported many times in the past and its happened to me too when I was in the middle of a mission and a cheater teleported to me. Always when a cheater is nearby does weird glitchy ♥♥♥♥ happen and the game crashes. Don't have that issue running a private lobby with Lobby Manager or when I'm around players that aren't using cheats in Public. So, I know it's the cheaters causing these issues. Also, separating myself from cheaters fixed the stable bug too.
Kinda makes you go HMMMMM when you find out that Online works flawlessly without 'certain' types of players around.
Sadly Red Dead Online on PC is a complete nightmare. Cheaters destroy the experience. :(
The game’s much better on console where you don’t have to deal with this nonsense.
On PC, your only option is to play in private sessions if you don’t want to be harassed by cheaters.

This game also BADLY needs private/friend-only sessions, but at least the above “trick” exists.
Here is the report from Rockstars Feb updated..
[February 1, 2023] – PC
Security
Implemented a new data protocol in GTA Online to improve the security of network sessions and player-to-player messaging
Fixed an issue that could result in a player’s GTA Online experience being modified by a third party, including:
altering GTA$ balance, RP level, Bad Sport status, and other player stats
manipulation of players being kicked or crashed
im late to this discussion, but cheaters can actually crash your game.
I got the stable glitch and then a cheater told me he could tp me out but he said it could crash my game which it did
