As of our latest update you can now use smartphones as additional controllers in Trivia Tricks! This is possible through Steam’s Remote Play Together functionality. Despite the name, no Steam account is required!
The 4-player local limitation is still the case, but we are investigating ways of lifting that limit now we are no longer bound by controller connection limits on PC. Stay tuned!
I deleted my previous posts in this thread as the information was outdated.
8 players... this is totally useless to me with only 4 players. Please advise how to do 8 players as promised. Thanks
Trivia Tricks can be played online with up to 8 players, and up to 4 players can join locally. Those 4 local players can also join online matches as guests. This is described in the first line of the 'About this game' section of the store page - 'Play Trivia in online multiplayer with up to 8 players or connect controllers and smartphones to play locally with up to four friends.'
Because local players can be brought online it is currently possible to get an 8 player game going if at least 2 players own Trivia Tricks. We are currently investigating raising the local player cap and, should it be technically feasible, hope to enable 8 players locally in an update.
I can see how that quoted line is confusing, it was written with the intention of implying that the game in total has 'up to 8 players'. I have contacted the folks responsible to update the short description to make this clearer ASAP.
If this is a deal-beaker for you then I totally understand, please feel free to issue a refund through Steam's Refund Policy. Also, if you would like, I'm happy to reach out to you if we get 8-player local support working.
if i click play online and host a game there are 8 slots.... so can I invite 7 other steam friends ?
Also if creating a lobby people have to play on steam on a pc? phones are ONLY if you play 4 player via steam link?
Is that right? I've no idea on earth how 2 copies would work... you need a step by step for each way)
We now advise players to check our Official Remote Play Guide for assistance on sharing Trivia Tricks with friends after a single purchase, or for using phones as controllers!

Previously there were a few posts here on how to setup an 8 player game with 2 copies of Trivia Tricks, but we have released a few updates since then so some of that information has become outdated. To avoid confusion I deleted the outdated posts and instead this guide will be kept up to date. Thanks for your understanding!
