A Horse in the Valley quest not working-- help?

First I brought one and it didn't work. Now, I've brought every horse in the valley to the merchant's pen, they enter, shimmer, and stay, but the quest doesn't tick as complete, the merchant doesn't have a quest marker. When I speak to him, it's business as usual. There is also no marker on the map showing up for the quest, and yes it is activated.

I'm on day 50 and would really like to resolve the issue rather than start a new game.

There is no quest to bring a horse to him as far as I know. He just mentions that he has a mare if you get a stallion.

It refers to a pen of your own. Not the merchant's. The written English in-game is not 100% clear some of the time.

There is no mare for sale, no horse plaque for sale, and no horse illustration on the cart. I have also brought horses to the homestead, secured in my own pen, but it doesn't matter without the plaque.

EDIT --no plaque in my inventory, Grandma and Grandpa have nothing to say, I have slept, saved and quit several times.

Did you check the storage box in the barn to see if the plaque was in there?

Yep. I have even meticulously organized my storage box to be very pleasing to the eye-- no plaque. :/

Yay!!! I have the horse plaque in my storage, along with a few other items, thanks to the bug fix!
