Man, kids these days....
Whether it will all come together over a whole game remains to be seen, but the writing showcased in the demo is fantastic.
Give that practice combat with the mannequins in the starter area is very basic, I'm glad the focus seems to be on narrative and characters.
Hi. There are combat in the demo. First is the braindead vs the dummies. Second is with Mason the merc & his 2 buddies. Unfortunately this is also a dud. I listed out the flaws in one of my thread. Just don't use a rifle in that encounter. Hopefully they will upgrade it soon.
Yeah even classic RPGs have combat like PST. Even though that is one of the downside of the game.
guess how much combat that one had
and how much of planescape torment revolves around combat
The one thing I will agree with is that the demo could have included atleast 1 mandatory combat for the sake of 'Demoing' it and providing feedback for the devs though; looking through the forum it seems like the majority of us played the same way with only a few posts now and then talking about the optional combat encounter (And I'd need to do a replay to see how this works myself, which I may or may not do someday)
But otherwise yeah the game sold me on the merits of it's setting, presentation and being the closest damn Fallout inspired CRPG I've seen since the likes of Underrail/Encased/Atom RPG, with this one being being clear head and shoulders among them.
There is some merit to that thought process anyway, and a reason why so many of us consider that the golden era of gaming. (as an aside look at all the damn remakes and reboots we're getting lately from 20~25 year old masterpieces, clearly the gaming industry sees value in them also)
Not saying they are wrong for believing so, nor is OP wrong for his opinion. But as I said, not every RPG needs to have non-stop action, like how not every movie needs to have non-stop action to be considered a masterpiece. Don't like this game (Or demo)? That's fine, just take it as a hint that this game may not be for you when it releases.
I will agree to that, this game could have had one one more combat encounter for this to be a full on demo. I was interested to see how the attack on the town would be done if not for the end of the demo, or if doing anything with the raider in the cage would lead to combat ie, "Thanks... but no witnesses to my escape!"
I don't know if the game is good yet until I know if the combat sucks. Given everything I know, I assume it sucks, so until I see proof that's not true, not buying the game.
And not spending 2 hours playing a demo just to get to the first combat if there even is one.
I don't mind 2 hours of dialog if the game is actually fun but who even knows yet? I'll read the dialog when the game comes out. This is demo to play the game. Not read.
