What can I sell apart from junk?

Should I sell something like an opal for example in [General] or only sell from [Junk]?
Will I need stuff like opals, bottles, thread etc for crafting or nah

I think you can sell all the regular opals and gold nuggets without issue, I never found a use for them except as a source of money. There's one quest related opal I got from somewhere (crash site?) that has been sitting in my inventory for a long time, but you can't sell it so it's safe in either case.

Most of it is useless, but some things are needed for sidequests. Opals and gold can be sold, but you get a lot more if you sell em to specific npcs. In Merredin, you can sell em in hunters and collectors building to the guy on the right side. He gives 500 for em. Weapons you should sell to weapon vendors, since they pay more than other ones.

edit: oh and, not all junk is actually junk, some of it can be useful

Definitely don't sell scrap if you want to upgrade your weapons. I sold like 30 before saving Cole

Some quests require some weird items, Junk doesn't mean it can't be used somewhere. They should've flagged necessary items as quest items.
Just don't sell junk. Sell only weapons/armor you don't need. Junk won't get you much money anyway.

IIRC you need high Perception (about 12? I think?) and search the cockpit.
