This is a bad game. Uninspired, badly designed, extremely linear and lacklustre in every aspect except the presentation. Yes, the devs are nice and didn't pretend that everyone not liking it was an idiot, but that doesn't magically make the game good.
This is barely a game. People who said that about Disco Elysium should play Broken Roads just to know how wrong they were.
Your character is a non-entity in this story.
The story is on rails there is barely any options to interact with it.
NPCs are laughably simple, but still acting in completely nonsensical ways to move the story along.
The """groundbreaking""" new morality system is a very simplistic gimmick which doesn't really do anything apart from locking down half the dialogue options for you.
There isn't enough dialogue to actually implement it in any case, and what is there is so basic that it could have worked the same without it.
To make it even worse, the way it's implemented doesn't even make sense.
It's also very short, very simplistic and despite this there is quite a lot of padding to its playtime with aimless running around for fetch quests.
No one so far who is touting the 'short game' argument even owns it, or is hidden for some reason. (And infact someone linked to Mortismal's Steam page in which he had 40+hrs)
I've had my eye on this one for a while.. little combat and short is what i want in an rpg. I'm so sick of 100 hour slogs. It's not that they are horrible, but i don't want to spend months playing every single game i pick up. A game that i can enjoy for a night or two and have a good little story is exactly the kind of thing i want more of, not less. Even 20 hours is to long in most cases for me. 3-7 is my sweet spot. This game moved up on my list for sure. I'll wait a few weeks and hope for a bug's patch and pick it up.
If you don't believe me, well, that's up to you. However it seems extremely unlikely that some random internet trolls would write detailed descriptions about what they don't like in the game for random internet points when this game has already failed irrecoverably.
Also I left a very detailed description in the other topic about one of the game's most insanely low effort and badly handled "twists", but I guess I must have made that one up as well...
Edit:
You know what? Since I am venting, because I am angry about this game, here you go. Here is why the combat and the game length is the least of this game's problems.
This happens when you get to the second town in the game.
1.: Getting in, you meet the mayor, who wants you to do some election rigging for her.
2.: If you refuse, then the second you step out of her office you instantly get transported into a basement somewhere with your "crew" (they werent with you before), and threatened by the most famous evil gangleader in the wasteland. There is no transition, you are just there.
3.: Famous evilwoman threatens you since she is in cahoots with mayor, then you teleport back to mayor office (your crew goes missing again)
4.: Mayorwoman threatens you to now do her bidding or else. I said no again.
5.: The second you leave her office YOU ARE KIDNAPPED AGAIN AND SENT TO EVILGANGWOMAN AGAIN WITH YOUR CREW
6.: She should kill you but she doesn't, leaves a few goons for you to kill, then you instantly teleport back to town again where the election is now going.
7.: But not even that happens as randomly a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wizard attacks and the whole thing gets forgotten about.
8.: Like literally, you can never bring this up again, ever. You cannot tell anyone that the mayor is bffs with one of the raider gang leaders to anyone. No one cares.
9.: Because of 7., I don't think it even matters if you do her stupid election fraud side quest.
This Year is already absurd for RPGs and I can appreciate the bite sized things now and then myself too.
@Wondervice I appreciate the effort but I don't exactly want to look at direct spoilers either. Just waiting for the weekend before I can actually get a proper binge-play session in and I'll see if my opinion has changed any.
Because it's a crazy minor thing to give a bad review about? The skill tree/character sheet is on [T] which is not uncommon.
There's something like justified criticism and then there's this.
Everyone, except you it seems, sees they are taking the criticism directly and accepting them.
The game is bad, not achieving what it sets out to do, and certainly not delivering what it promised to deliver. Looks like the majority of people is in agreement about that.
