You have 6 shots (that recharge over a shot amount of time) if you hold the fire button the shot gets charged. them you have a "spell" to catch the ground on fire causing damage over time if the enemy stays in it, an earth spell that knocks back the targets in the circle. a fireball or ice ball, a lightning strike or rock strike and i think that is all. you have to choose which spells you are going to use and you can level up the spells a little bit so you might have one fireball that takes less mana but another fireball (ie the exact same spell) that crits more often. and you can only have one type of spell in that slot at a time fireball and the ice ball spell I think are the ones that share a slot (ie you can have one or the other not both)
so nonsensical rambling aside its like I said at the start, mage class is more like a shooter class.
as for is the game worth $30? I would say sure, I have spent more on lesser games, but WoW or FFXIV this game is not, and I am not sure it even matches up to runescape.
