This aside:
- The fact I paid $300 for an ultimate license before they were forced to make it free.
- I spent probably 20 hours persevering to learn the platform - it is very kludgy and not at all intuitive and still far from mastering it.
- Not sure if they still have FGU Fantasy Grounds University but I joined a lot of those sessions to play the game with other players and learn the system

If you are a hard core TTRPG player and have a group of friends to play with you should still expect to spend 10+ hours just mocking out playing a game before considering playing a group game. This is also assuming you are already comfortable playing the game IRL.

Overall I would recommend this since it's the only Steam TTRPG I am aware of, but personally I am not sure I could get back into it. I have been away from it for a couple years now and it would take me a day of grind to shake the rust off before playing again.
