It's barely even a Metroidvania. There's basically no backtracking and it's almost completely linear.
I wanna some long and huge 2D action game like Astlibra, doesn't matter if metroidvania or not.
edit: Dev said it might be about 8-10 hours now, gotta wait till someone actually plays it before maybe buying :D
The aesthetic of the game might be the only thing that would hold you back but other than that it's a legit amazing game specially if you look for hardcore games.
Most people would agree it's a better designed game than bloodstained and around the same level as hollow knight but still very different in gameplay style from those two.
And if you like roguelikes for more playtime , there's the Randomizer available right there at the in-game's workshop.
From what i see, the game's store page doesn't advertise itself as a metroidvania, it's tagged as such because some people have a very loose definition of what a metroidvania is.
If it's a linear game (i have yet to figure that out myself) then 5 to 7 hours is ok it's not a capital sin to make a short game, metroidvanias take longer not necessarily because they are longer games but because a lot of time is spent backtracking or exploring.
Or to put it simply, a game's worth is not determined by the time it takes to complete, but by the enjoyment and engagement it provides during that time.
When you like a game and it's fun enough you might end up playing double than what people say.
Judging from the playtime of the people who already finished the game they average around 10 hours so there's that
It's hard to say how long the game will take since that depends on the player a lot, but in terms of room count, power-up count, and the number of bosses, the game is very similar in size to Super Metroid.
The average playtime is between 8-10 hours! Some people might take less or more from that range! :)
Nothing wrong with shorter metroidvania games at all. Any new game+ or hardcore mode that unlocks after to interest the player in a 2nd playthrough?
