Because the company went bankrupt. The Devs and Management made the wrong decision at every step of the way. Who could have foreseen this coming from a studio who's very namesake comes from Marxist Propaganda? I jus't don't get it /S

The real reason why the game is being shut down is because they just got acquired by Activision Blizzard and they'll help develop World of Warcraft.

Riiiiight. The Devs got hired by Blizzard for thier outstanding work on their smash hit 'Spellbreak'. I got a bridge I can sell you, man. Half off, what a steal!
