Very basic questions
I am enjoying this incremental game, but am having a hard time wrapping my head around the math and efficiency -- i.e. when to buy certain upgrades. Is it as simple as whenever I can afford to buy something I should?

Depends on how important perfect efficiency is to you. Buying upgrades when you can afford them is perfectly fine, but you can slightly speed things up if you consider that tickspeed is raised to the 8th power. So if your tickspeed multiplier is 1.125, buying a tickspeed upgrade is 2.57x antimatter production over time, as opposed to buying a dimension upgrade, which starts at 2.00x antimatter production. Very early game, this can speed things up a little, but really not by much. I value my energy much more than a few extra minutes of time.

buy priorities
galaxy
dimension boost
then if they are the same cost, a new dimension that you dont have yet
if there are no new dimensions available,
1st dimension
2nd dimension
tickspeed
3rd->4th etc ->8th

although buying 1 tickspeed gives more production boost than buying 10 dimensions, tickspeed takes time to show the boost, where as 1st is instant(and 2nd is near instant) and those 2 will usually push you to the next upgrade much faster than a tickspeed
