* mobile Game (even worse) ;)
Depends why you're playing the game - it's an idler, not a clicker, so if you were looking for something to actively play...probably not the game for you (for long, at least).
In the early game chests are the fastest way to make money, especially while your storage capacity is tiny, but you do need to leave the game running in the background for 15-30m at a time (or longer) to let a decent amount of chests spawn. The randomness is because they're found by miners, so each miner (I assume) is rolling a chance to find a mineral, an isotope, or a chest.
Scientists can get you more or less useful relics (miner speed isn't bad early, storage space is amazing early, some of the weapons/oil relics are handy later) but they're much better early on for large quantities of resources, as the amount they give you isn't reduced by your capacity cap (you might immediately need to sell everything, but it might also let you grab a drill upgrade you couldn't have gathered the resources for otherwise). Scientists are also good for chests early on (for the same reason chests are good), and later the time skips can be very helpful when you're crafting gems.
Is the game perfect? Hardly. If you want perfection in a game, f2p is rarely going to deliver (I'll grant, there are probably exceptions). The game was updated not that long ago with some tweaks (including the trader now actually showing you the comparative value of what you're paying for what you're getting, when it's minerals/money) and a new set of achievements, with the promise of more to come, so the dev is certainly putting *some* time into it, but honestly, if it's not making them enough money to justify prioritising working on it, Real Life (TM) should absolutely come first (and that could mean full time employment, family etc.).
it's clear as day the developer is using this terrible system to frustrate people into buying tickets and buy thousands of dollars worth of chests in futile hope of making at least some hint of progress before the end of this century.
