Where are the legendary scientists?

I have been pulling gold chests left and right, opened almost 300 dollars worth of chests over the last few months while having no scientists in the roster and still no luck. I get its a chance but after around 420(Not intentional) gold chest draws and no luck its like is it even possible? Does anyone have any advice?

Also as of now I am at 1051KM(W2-19KM) in depth with 400 hours in the game

Dr. Archibald is the one and only legendary scientist at this point.

My lvl 11 Dr Archibald that I got after about 13h of playtime just died today, ask for 13 tickets for revive. I think he died on a 13% chance... The Scientists suffers from the XCOM curse in this game, I keep losing them on -20% chance to fail missions, I think my worst was a 7%...

The first one i got somewhere around 900 lvl. I didn't even know it. Apparently he died very quickly but i got achievment. The second one I got yesterday on the moon (w2 40 lvl) and so far he is on 2 level and still alive :D.
This is total RNG. Open chests. Metal detector and game in the background are your friends. Good luck ;)

I got my first one around 900 as well, maybe when I was around 950. He died on his second or third mission so I had to use tickets to revive him. Until you collect enough Books of Success, even Legendary scientists die to low percentage missions. But what choice do you have when one is 10% and the next is 90%?

Got the achievement but it wasn't from a gold chest and he never popped up. Really wish I could get one

Easier to win the lottery, don't spend money on this game. That's what they want, he spent for nothing.

I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to comment that I've only got 55hrs of game play and found "James The BEAR" Rarity: Legendary just now in a regular chest. Achievement didn't pop though.

Edit: Just in case someone asks, I was around 295km deep, and it was a chest sitting in the chest collector.
