All around excellent point and click adventure game with clever puzzles and good story/visuals/audio.

I appreciated the improvements in this version that made playing with a game controller easier! The control scheme was well executed.

Decent mystery adventure game, with great visuals and excellent voice acting, and in many way feels like the old LucasArt games. It is however very short, especially because it has none of the crap traditional adventure games used to make them artificially longer.

The story starts out as an intriguing whodunit, as Kathy tries to find out what happened to her grandfather, but despite uncovering several clues that point to a conspiracy, you quickly discover that the truth is far more bonkers and difficult to comprehend, as it effectively turns into something that resembles a mix between Twin peaks and X-files. I wouldn't call it a great story, as it doesn't really make any attempt at making sense and doesn't bother to explain much of what's happening, but it's alright. If they do make a sequel, I hope they got for a more solid plot and stay away from the nonsense.

As for the technical side, well, it's a pixel game. The single click and drag controls take a bit to get used to if you're used to traditional pont-and-click games, but they work and get the job done. There are many times throughout the game where I feel it would've benefitted from an 80s style command interface, or the more 90s controls with a separation of look/use/grab on objects. The inventory is also not the greatest, but luckily you never have to use most the stuff you collect more than once. Personally I hate all the black screens when it transitions from one scene to the next, or just skips animations in the scene you're in. Some of them are quite long, for no justifiable reason, and I had a few times where I thought the game has crashed as it seemed stuck on those black screens. There are much better ways to do transitions, especially when you're just walking into the next room in the same building. But other than that, it looks great and it's fairly easy to spot the objects you can interact with

Great story, even though the end is weird AF! Still can't recommend it enough if you're into mystery Point and Click adventure games. Must play for fans of the genre!

good game

As a fan of the genre, this is one of the better point and click games I've played in a long time. The protagonist is really well-written; she has cynicism that is realistic for the life she's had, but she also has the expected vulnerability. Really engaging, no moon-logic puzzles (except for one near the very end that involves pressing things, I still don't understand it even after looking up the solution), charming characters and art-style.

The graphics, story, voice acting, puzzles, and general design are all great. A must for point-and-click fans who don't mind some darker, grittier themes!

One of the best point & click adventure games I've played in a long while

Wow, just wow. I did not play the original Kathy Rain, so this Director's Cut was a real treat. It was an enjoyable experience to see the character growth of the sardonic Kathy (she hasn't had the easiest life so far). Combine this with the intriguing plot of her discovering the truth about her deceased grandfather and how he became catatonic, the excellent voice acting and beautifully drawn backgrounds, and this is an adventure game that I would 100% recommend.
