[MOD] Farm overview & additional camera zoom levels
Important mod update!

If you have downloaded this mod previously (mod release v1.0 or v.1.1), I strongly recommend you re-download this and apply the mod patch. New mod downloads only need to use the bundles in the "fresh" folder of whichever edition of the mod is chosen.

Mod overview

The mod comes in two flavours -- lite (3 additional zoom levels), and full (3 additional zoom levels, plus an overview zoom level). The zoom levels are as follows:

  • 21.5 (new)
  • 18.5 (new)
  • 15.5 (new)
  • 12.5 (tweaked from 13.0)
  • 9.5 (vanilla)
  • 7.5 (vanilla)
  • 81.5 (new, full version only)

Note: this mod requires a PC that exceeds the recommended specs. Additionally, some occasional mild frame drops and/or stuttering should be expected on larger farms (especially in the central area). This mod has been tested on a moderately developed farm on a PC with the following specs:

  • i7-7700K @ 4.2GHz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

The other minor limitation -- more a humorous side-effect -- is fully-zoomed out looks odd in Olive Town.

Note: this is still quite experimental and I am open to (and extremely grateful for) feedback.

Fair questions.

What is the FPS like?

At 1920x1080:-

  • Vanilla -- well above 60fps; never dips (can't give a precise figure as I cap my frames at 60 as it'd be wasted on my monitor).
  • Lite -- mostly hits 60fps+, occasional dips to ~55fps
  • Full -- still tends to hit ~60fps, though dips to ~50-55fps are slightly more common

The minor stutters (when they do happen) relate more to crossing certain areas. I will continue to investigate this.

I'll still work on tweaking it to optimise it further, especially if people do run into issues. However, I'd never release something that I would not be happy to use myself. (I am currently using it). :)

Although now that you have asked the question re: performance -- quite rightly, too -- I have taken another look at the FieldObjectFarClip parameter and I might be able to reduce it some more (on the lite version, at least) without resulting in noticeable object pop-in.

Why does the gif look all stretchy like?

Because I forgot to maintain aspect ratio when converting the mp4 to gif. Oops. I take your point, though... It doesn't exactly look good. I'll get a fixed version up so people don't think it's down to the mod. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

edit: fixed gif added to the original post.
