I grew up playing the original Mud and Blood 2 flash game before the death of Flash. I very much enjoyed that game which brought me to buy this game which I had hoped would be the next evolution in the series beyond flash. Unfortunately, this game is in many ways inferior to the flash game. The game has made essentially no technological progression since its days as a flash game. For a 2020's release this game does not feature even the most basic of modern features. Resolution cannot be scaled for different monitors. It's the basic resolution on full screen or in windowed mode. Windowed mode lacks a handle to move the window around your screen. Full screen mode breaks consistently if I try to alt-tab out of the window to do anything else at all and does not allow me to return to the game. In fact, the game has rendered itself unplayable by moving itself to a position where most of the game is offscreen and I can't move the window back onto my screen. All this is the reason I can't give this a recommendation, and that's not even touching gameplay.

Gameplay: Gameplay caters toward a very niche playerbase of people who enjoy hardcare games. The name of the game is Unfair Random Brutality. No amount of skill can protect you from it. Luck and skill merely stall the inevitable moment when the game director blitzes you or all your best men eventually get shot through their cover saves and die without much say in the matter. I somewhat enjoy this gameplay, but you may not. Your mileage may vary. There is a goodly amount of content currently in the game, and new stuff not in the flash game, but there could probably be some balancing involved. (I for one am not a big fan of fire spreading to your men from outside bunkers inside and then catching your men on screaming fire and killing them very rapidly. Pausing the game is the only chance you have at saving them if you have a TP for a fire extinguisher.)

The game has also exceeded its stated period for early access whether that is for better or worse. The game is not abandoned, but with the state it is in I'm not certain if my core gripes will be addressed (Modernization of the game/engine to run well on modern machines.) If the game ran better and wasn't such a pain in the ass to get to work and not break, my opinion would improve for this game, but I maintain that this game is not for all audiences. It's probably worth a try on the free demo though.

This game isn't "unfair", it's straight up lottery. Which is unfortunate. Some excellent core gameplay and fun systems at work, entirely driven into the dirt by a poor RNG system. I have frequently encountered situations where all 6 of my soldiers will be firing maybe 2 or 3 volleys at a single SS soldier... We might hit once, but he'll survive, break suppression(My guys like to wait 6-8 seconds between enemy volleys, meaning they stay supressed), plink a shot and nail my most experienced soldier and then just walk casually into a tree to break LOS. I understand the concept of URB, I'm a veteran of RNG based games like XCOM, Longwar etc so this isn't a case of getting over it, I am frustrated with the lack of fun in a game otherwise full of potential.
