Can you share random value from the map? It's in the save/load dialog.
Explore more, there's no way there's no small bottles or crocks. Or don't fixate your mind on producing a specific product. Save it for later when you actually have explored more and unlocked more items. Sometimes the items are '?' because you haven't got enough relations.
I explore pretty much territory. There is a lot of crocks, but no small bottle. My problem is if in a map there are a lot of small bottle, then the first building what I got cannot produce a product what needs small bottle. And when the first building is for produce Applejack, then the map (a huge part at least) is not contain any small bottle.
My guess was you will suggest me to use more "favor" to make more respect and somehow those already discovered cafes and restaurants will provide small bottle. But bc nobody suggested me this, I guess I just need to start a new game over and over again until I found a first building what produce that product what I have all resource in the neighborhood (in the far neighborhood).
The text will tell you if the stuff they dont show you is illegal or unknown.
And yes the map generation needs some overhaul, a map where you can't even start a basic production within the first 20 turns is really not worth playing.
I wasted a ton of time yesterday, FIFTEEN starts in wich I either:
- Had only stoneware but none of the needed ingredients
- Had two stoneware and ingridients but not for the skills I had and the one I needed refused to show up
- Started in some kind of industrial area with great production capacity but not ONE buyer
- Had actually a start without a single stoneware supplier
(All of the above maps explored 10 movement points in every direction, for the lacking skill, checked everybody who had a learn skill offer AND did the take 5 corners quest)
Now I am sure that yesterday the RNG gods HATED me and I finally found a map where I could start a brick wine production.
The problem is that later on you can improvise and make some stuff work, making your own customers with bootleggers and speakeasies or produce some needed stuff from the basic ressource (apple juice from apples etc.), but all that needs money to invest and without that first production running and bringing in money you can't do any of that.
So the map generation should at least be a bit tweaked to make sure you can get a first buisness running quick, to save players this kind of hassle.
Cause while I do like the game, yesterday I was REALLY close to de-install.
@SomaSim: I will post the seed at afternoon from home.
This is the seed: 1524691685
I got a fist building produce ice and apple syrup and I have the skill to create an apple jack factory. I did built it and discover a little big territory, but didnt find any Small Bottle.
I find that malt syrup and neutral alcohol are often found in industrial zoned area (check your information display, same menu as heat maps and police districts) while apple juice, grape concentrate, crocks and bottles are usually found in commercial zoned areas.
What City, Version, and Nationality?
Also, check the “Try This Seed” pinned thread for more friendly starts until you get the hang of it better.
Pittsburg, Hungarian, latest version, but created yesterday (one version bellow)
Thanks for the tip about Try this seed topic!

"Impossible Start"
I once had a start where every seller of the stuff I needed had brawling hooligans with billyclubs and my character was a pacifist... it was tough, but I was able to get established with connections and above mentioned missions for filling crocks with applejuice. I eventually abandoned the run but only because I was still learning and wanted to experiment with another map but it *is* possible once you learn the game a bit more to survive...
Long term I probably would have been crushed by another outfit due to the slow start
