Try this Seed

When starting a new game use the following Seed number: 1429927707. Select English ethnics. Enjoy.

Seed sets up the city itself.
Ethnic sets up WHERE in the city you start.

I'm no rocket surgeon and I made this one work well. My guess is many of you can really make some serious cash.

If you are having trouble getting it all figured out, this Seed is VERY friendly. And whilst it is friendly, it's not easy so you'll still have a challenge.

Having run a number of new games to trial and error different aspects of the game, I've found this Seed/Ethnic combo may be excellent for a new player that is struggling a bit.

Anything after that will work on the current version of the game. SomaSim has posted that older seeds, listed in this thread, can be used on the Archive version of the game.

Here is one I rolled this morning. It fulfills everything I look for in a set-up.

Cincinnati German Getting Territorial
traits: friendly, attractive, strong
3 action points, 10 movement
Safe house gives corn, steel barrels, oak barrels.....needs only stoneware crocks to make moonshine, which my guy knows how to make from the start. The oak barrels I reckon will come in handy to make some of that fine Kentucky bourbon later on. The map placement could be better - a little ways north of the Ohio River, but at least no enemies or hooligans in sight.

It was evident early on I would be doing a lot of at the start re-rolling to get a nice set-up, and to a degree it reminds me of all the times I had to re-roll Anno 1800. But, and this difference is a significant one, it take only 2 quick clicks (city and nationality) and you are ok to hit the START button. I am grateful to the devs for making re-rolling so painless.

Oak barrels are also used in making Gin which sucks in terms of profits if you see my guide.

Chicago, American, Organised Crime. (but on hindsight, I think Nice Building you've got there is the best trait because the scaling of new buildings cost is insane)

Early game you can make one Backroom Brick Wine Operation (and later upgraded to Improved Brick Wine Operation) and you're pretty much set.
Next op you wanna make is a Backroom Winery (can even go for 2 but source for bottles first. Plenty around)
Third op can be a Grape Press if you're having trouble with finding Grape Concentrate.
Start diversifying into Homemade Beers or Ciders (but I preferred the former because malt syrup was in abundance).
After that, you can make a Sparkling Cider Fermenter and Small Brandy Still for mid-late game.

Turn 188 now with 60k in assets. 31 corners, 14 crew members (7 managers for 7 buildings and 7 drivers with all delivery trucks).

I've learned so much from getting this far that I'm conflicted between starting over and utilizing that knowledge from the start, or continuing on. Classic dilemma.

This game is so great. I need to write a nice review on it.

Nationality : American / you start with "short" trait which is not the worst trait to have and with Fruit Market and Grape concentrate. 4 Brick Wine buyers are super close to you, same with few crocks shops, so you have nice start. and a bunch of other shops are around you.

Nationality : Italian / same start with Fruit Market and Grape concentrate, but you start on left side of the map, with a little harder route to your buyers for Brick Wine.

This one is the best start I could ever imagine....

Wendell Johnston arrived in DETROIT, from CANADA. His safehouse shares a corner with 3 other very friendly stores, 2 that buy the cider his operation will produce. That operation will begin to be constructed on TURN TWO!!!! The third store on the starting corner you can buy CROCKS from. Within 1 space are 3 more Crock stores. He starts between a river and a red enemy 5 blocks to his north, but he is sure his adept and timely development will overwhelm that eventuall threat.
