The big thing with railroad's and map customization is working with the coordinates. For now all I can say is practice messing with the rail coordinate's by making a 2 axis graph on paper. The rail coordinates can be searched in *maps* folder once in folder press ctrl + F and then search the word rails. All COG map rail coordinates should come up but I can't say for custom ones.
Make sure there is at least $500 in casino for small brothels and a bit more for the larger ones. The debt collection prompt does sound like a bug but I don't think it's on my end.

I don't use Linux so I wouldn't know where to start but maybe a dev or someone on the COG discord can help. Btw does Proton open the game directory files on your operating system so you can add script ? If so maybe the walkthrough for modding is a bit similar but if the directory files are different and compressed you may have a problem with the mod.
Edit: Did I do something wrong? The game starts in 1934? Thought the mod extends the game, not completely skips Prohibition.
Yea the mod skip's prohibition so it should start in 1934. I might look into extending the game from prohibition until the 50's (It would kinda make more sense). I kinda have a new update in the works btw so I'll include that above with it.

I can only replace gambling modules atm not add yet. Maybe I can replace it with one of the other games for the moment if it's plausible.
its all good. I have a question, I am playing with your mod on a Modded map from the workshop but i cant seem to encounter bugs the only thing i am not sure of is whenever a hood gets arrested they only get trial if they get caught with alcohol, i had many of my protection collection hoods arrested but always were sent to the safehouse instead of going to jail, It only happened once that one of my hoods was sent to trial was when one was caught with brickwine.
P.S. the only bug i have seen was from running a scheme to get more alcohol, i only had choice of weed or opium as a reward and when i selected one the dialog showed a question mark and nothing was delivered to any safehouse. If these are bugs, they are the only ones i have encountered playing on a modded map. and i am at almost 500 turns
Looking into profitable fronts now but I took the 5k out and replaced it with 500. The skills now cost 2500 as well. From doing a few tests the play through was better when reducing the cash and reducing the skill cost. It's a few other changes for gameplay purposes but probably nun as big as that 5k.
Try placing the profitable fronts mod again. I don't see anything wrong with that script atm. In your people.sim file tributePerBiz should say 60 and buildCost should be 500. If you can that's how you check the file is working correctly
