bit too early to judge this since no one has made it to the end yet..
ive been at this over for like 60 hrs and have have a pretty good gang running around.
its really fun when you find the groove.
people will disappointed..to each their own
And some of us will love it.
Good luck.
there was more to being a gangster during prohibition than shooting people. if the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre was incredibly common place, it would likely not be as famous as it is today.
Production chain, distribution, bribes, backroom dealings - all of that supplied the resources and money needed to have an empire or organization to begin with, let alone to try to expand it.
Now, obviously combat and violence happened. Don't get me wrong. It surely did, no doubt there. But I do disagree with the idea that somehow the game is a waste if there's not more violence. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course but like I said, a criminal organization does not get by focusing just on violence. It has to have contacts, connections and relationships that are complex in nature in order to survive or to expand. I can appreciate a game that while I wish there was a few more buildings or activities - I can appreciate a game for focusing more on the business side of things rather than just focusing on who got bloodied in the street.
But to each their own
No one wants to hear about how on the 4th of July so and so bought 12 cases of moonshine for whatever amount of $ for 200-300 pages. Whose going to buy that?
again, not trying to discredit the fact or notion that murder and violence played a large role it did... but I believe bribes, deals, etc, played a larger role. no one is going to do business with you if you just whack everyone. and you're not going to get people on your side that often before they try to get rid of you
If you want a constant violent bloodbath, Empire of Sin is just a few store pages over.
This game is imho a very good base for an excellent gangster simulation.
The economic part is good and a bit more polishing and features will make it perfect.
But I think additional options and criminal business / actions would add a lot more gameplay and fun elements to the game.
By violence I don't mean shootings, the mafia was scary and terror was not everyone's icon, here you go around make friends "the favors" at the beginning it's okay start from scratch it's a mechanic that is there, I like it, but I would also like to choose a more evil approach I'm always a gangster, then I hate missions that ask me for money, but I'm a benefactor.
play gangster organzed crime then you tell me
You're responsible for your own expectations and disappointment. The developers have done a fine job. There is room for improvement, but the game is also great as is.
My biggest fear is that they will cave to the vocal minority and change their vision of the game to make people happy who have the wrong idea of this game's premise.
