Finding Resources
There must be an easier way to find legal resources than just driving around aimlessly. I've spend a ingame year trying to find lumber and nothing. Nothing on the overlay either. Do I really have to check every corner, that's not fun

That's what I do... Drive around. I don't know no other way. Seems like your luck when the map is generated what will be close or far.

You’d think there be something like the Yellow Pages in 1920? Drive two blocks in a week, no lumberyard! Drive two more blocks next week, etc. Then there’s the fact that it takes me 3-4 weeks to slowly beat someone to death with a crowbar.

I’m still enjoying the game immensely though!

I find that pretty odd too. I mean I've been stuck in traffic for two weeks before, who hasn't, but I doubt they had traffic like that in 1920? Also the slow beatdown is quite unusual, yes.

LOLing at this thread. Brings me back to my Railroad Tycoon days when it would take two months to get a train from Dallas to Houston but you could lay 1000 miles of track instantly if you had the cash

It's one of the biggest drawbacks to the game and will prevent the game from ever truly excelling.

If you don't see the resource in the overlays, you haven't discovered it yet.

If you see the resource but not a single business, it means you haven't met the right person! Drive around and explore the area around beyond your neighborhood - and use the *zones* overlay to check out *industrial* areas for resources like lumber.

We're considering some option to reveal resources further out at some cost (e.g. favors) but don't have a design for that yet.

What about unlocking resources such as pipes? Happened quickly on one play through but another I'm really starving for them.

Thank you for replying. I didn't realise there was a zone overlay, I'll check that out. I've probably been looking in a residential neighbourhood.

I like the idea of being able to ask people where to buy legal resources, also mechanics (I had trouble finding one of those too).

I'm enjoying the game so far. This is the only thing that has frustrated me so far.

The pipes have not unlocked for me but i have so many expansion options requiring them... must be a bug?? When i say they haven't unlocked they are not visible in the resource overlays..

I worked it out, I had to get the skill upgrade first. If you get a skill upgrade for something like Improved Moonshine, it will unlock pipes on the map.

I ended up spending ages trying to find somewhere to repair my car.

10 minutes later i'd killed 2 people, a war had started in my area, the feds closed me down and arrested a co-worker and more people may have taken early retirement.

All I wanted was a mechanic.

Think i'm calling that save as finished and moving to a new one :steamfacepalm:

Can we turn down the amount of AI to make it a bit easier? The tutorial left me with a lot of questions and A LOT of rivals, it was a race to find out the answers before I got overrun.

I got the skill upgrade for improved brick wine and still no pipes..

I've noticed people who introduce you to other people tend to be useful towards your production. Either they connect you with people to sell or people you can buy from.

But I'm only on early, so it's only for my starting cider bussiness. Not sure if that scales further once you diversify.

Hey guys, usually what I find happen is:

Let's say you need Maple syrup but you haven't explored enough OR the ingredient hasn't been unlocked. Yes you have to discover a resource first before you can even buy it. Then usually once you find the tech to make the thing that needs maple syrup BUT can't find any shop selling maple syrup, you either 1. get a repeatable mission to refill 2. get a mission to learn how to make your own maple syrup
