Because this is a game about prohibition and bootlegging, not a game about 'the mob.'
At this point I wish they'd just named the game something else. 'City of Gangsters' gives people the wrong impression. This game is good *because* it focuses on bootlegging. Games like Empire of Sin tried to focus too much on combat and less on business and suffered because of it.
empire of sin was essentially a sequel to omerta.
this game is exactly what it always said it was, a bootlegging tycoon game.
This game reminds me of the old Capitalism series which allowed you to manufacture products, distribute them and set up retail store in various cities on a map. That's exactly what this game reminds me of. There's even a few scenarios in Capitalism that allow you to make liquor and beer for distribution. The only difference between that game and this game is the legality of making such products.
All I'm saying is a game titled City of Gangsters should have a lot more to it than just bootlegging. Not every gangster was a bootlegger. Some made their money in other ways. This game only allows you to bootleg. Where are the other criminal enterprises that gangsters actually did? Something else to point out too. One can't really determine that the game is just about Prohibition and bootlegging from the title of the game. I think that's part of the problem. People are expecting more than just bootlegging from a game titled City of Gangsters.
Major? For some major factions, sure, eventually. For others, particularly small time bootleggers, they never saw violence.
Bootleggers were businessmen first and foremost. Violence not only wasn't an option, it was undesirable and bad for business. I think the disconnect here is with "the mob" and bootleggers. This game isn't focused on "the mob." It's focused on bootleggers. Was there overlap? Yes. Was only "the mob" bootlegging? No, not even close.
Anyway, if it makes you feel better, imagine the game is called something else. Otherwise, start wrapping your head around the idea that despite your wishes, this is a game about bootlegging, and at least for the time being, only bootlegging.
i was playing gangsters organized crime and it was the best gangster strategy game so far. I also played gangsters 2 and i was on top of the multiplayer official and unofficial ladders back then but was a downgrade from gangsters 1. i played also omerta and other gangsters games since then, but this game even by indie company they made a really realistic awesome game with space for lot of improvements. Godfather 2 movie is an excelent movie if you haven't watch before start playing COG trust me, specially the rise of Vito Corleone!
Ok, I'm just asking everybody to please (continue to) be charitable towards each other :)
this game was never going to live up to the immense expectations people had for it. they wanted GoC 2, it was never marketed that way. it's a small studio, give them some credit for what they pulled off, i thoroughly enjoyed it having just finished my first run through.
I still havent had a fulll run.. i like to start a new game after a update ... and they come fast and close around here... So first some sleep.. Then to fire up a new game on 1.0.7
Jim Colosimo was hit by Johnny Torrio and Al Capone for not wanting to get into bootlegging. Colosimo was running gambling dens, brothels and other criminal enterprises before being bootlegging became a big deal. When Torrio and Capone took over those things didn't just disappear. Those things don't even exist in this game. The only thing that exists is the bootlegging. That's my point. A game called City of Gangsters should make me feel as if I'm a gangster not just a bootlegger. Joseph Kennedy (JFK's father) was into bootlegging but he wasn't a gangster.
