City of gangers vs Gangsters 1-2
What you think of this game boys and girls ?
what is your expectations?
do any of you remember the old game from 2000 called gangster 2 ? It use to be one of my favorit game and since then, i have really missed a good "gangster simulator" game.

this might be the closest thing we have been to this genre in many years. I really hope its gonna be good. Crews, hit and run, hitmans, bribes of police, jails, juges....cardgames, tommyguns. and cool gangster cars and much more, weapon and skill upgrades. specilist with abilitys like "kidnap, drive, bomb, weapons and so on.

I really hope you are gonna have this a great game. i Rather have this game later and it becomes good than just an ok game.

Or atleast considering makeing a version 2 of City of gangster. I would love to play it. I am a power hungry dude i know, but the feeling of power is great :D

That game was awesome I played for days. This new game reminds me a lot of it. Demo seemed really good glad devs left it up for a few extra days!

This game is more about the business end of bootlegging, so don't set your expectations too high, you'll only disappoint yourself.

If you're interested in more-detailed gang combat then I suppose you could try Empire of Sin, also a fairly recent Prohibition gangster game but not one very well received overall (it has only Mixed reviews on Steam). Still, a fair number of players seem to have enjoyed it enough to - mostly, very hesitantly - recommend it, despite its many faults and a very buggy launch. I put this down to a simple lack of gangster games in recent years, so many starved players took the view that any gangster game, no matter how poorly implemented, is better than none.

City of Gangsters is a whole different ball game (and I for one am extremely grateful for that). If you take out the bats, the guns, the greedy cops - and the fact that the products you're dealing in are currently illegal - then it would still make a fine business and logistics simulation. It's all about supply and demand, getting your product to where it's needed, keeping your customers happy, winning new customers by word of mouth, and improving your productivity, efficiency and supply lines. The fact that it's all done with a menacing smile and an iron fist in a velvet glove is pretty much beside the point - it's a business simulation first and foremost. You just happen to be dealing in illegal goods and competing against very aggressive rivals, with all that that entails: gang conflict, not detailed gang combat.

The level and detail of violence in CoG seems to suit this game perfectly, in my view.

this looks like the follow up to Gangsters that weve been waiting for. it is very similar, if not quite as much depth in rackets etc. Less focus on combat which isnt a bad thing, personally i loved the rackets and business side of gangsters but lost interest at the inevitable wave of violence and piles of bodies every week. I tended to replay the early game a lot.

I'm also a big gangster organized crime fan. That's one reason why I find CoG so interesting, as it could be the first game that could replace GoC as number 1. I played the demo and am convinced that anyone who loved GoC could potentially love CoG as well. Let's make a short comparison:

The advantages of Gangsters organised crimes (Gangsters 2 was trash) were clearly the following points:

- Turn based / real time mix. And this is probably the only and most important point, which is why Gangster's organized crime could remain number 1. Because it was absolute fun to give the orders at the beginning of the week and then watch how they are executed during the real time week (with a lot of life in the city). So it could happen that an order was not executed because your gangster was killed before. You can still be such a good boss... Your plans can be thrown completely overboard. In addition, you could intervene during the week. unique!!!
- Atmosphere: because the music, Backgrounds, Videos and the life in the City.
- shootings
- politicians and judges were also involved

and now what's better with CoG:

- huge map / 3d map with all perspectives
- Beautiful cities
- type of territory growth (respect)
- Networking
- focus on alcohol sales (because that's how they got really rich back then, because casinos and brothels had the mafia before)
- different cities
- ethnicity
- More Gangs

I hope they make a City of Gangsters 2 with turn based and real time mix with life in the city.... that would be the best prohibition game ever!!!!

Well said Gunnar :)

Personally I prefer the turn based to the real time, so that's not even a disadvantage in my eyes.

Sadly neither of them come close to the greatness of what was Gangsters.

City of Gangsters is a economy trading game in a gangster suit
and
Empire of Sin is a turn based squad shoot em up in a gangster suit

I'm not saying either of them are bad games, just not the game the OP and many others are looking for.

After playing the demo I do think this is as close as any game has come to it, fans of gangsters will enjoy this i think

I have to agree with Sunderland on this. Sure, there are some things Gangsters 1 & 2 had which CoG apparently will not, but that surely applies to any game of any genre unless it's a straight rip-off - which CoG most definitely is not.

More to the point though, there are certain things that CoG clearly does a whole lot better than either version of Gangsters ever did (understandable, since even Gangster 2 is now two decades old), which surely should be the main consideration here?

I fully expect CoG to be just as immersive as Gangsters but far more demanding and challenging over a full game, and with potentially much greater replay value. Nostalgia is all well and good, but that's precisely what I want from a game these days.

Imagine that Hothouse Creation studio would rerise or someone else would/could make a new gangster. CoG propperly have its own charm and playstyle, but damn i would love to see a new Gangster game/updated remake version atleast. or maybe CoG developer, could sell the idear to some other studio with CoG as a basemodel. Got to respect CoG for bring up old memories at least ;)

Ive always been absolutely amazed that it was never remade. still not forgiven them for gangsters 2, took a great in depth game with bags of potential that literally just needed a few things updated and instead they gutted it and made a crap (in my view) story and mission based game.

I know its not their intention but im looking at COG as the real gangsters 2

Gangsters 1 and Gangster 2 were 2 total diffrent games i agree. I kind of found Gangster 1 a bit hard to be fair. but no matter what the game its called i just hope it can delivery some good gameplay without being too "childish" in gameplay style and with lots of new way to play this kind of genre.

nfortunately, those who have played these titles now only have too many expectations on these managerial games on the mafia and I am one of them we all want a remake of the first one had everything would be just a little perfect

Never played Gangsters 2 but did play Gangsters 1. At this point I would have to say that Gangsters 1 is a better mob/gangster game than City of Gangsters. Gangsters 1 let you be the type of gangster you wanted to be. At this point the only thing you can really do is bootleg alcoholic beverages. This game gets that right but I think what people are saying is this game could be so much more than it is. I want to start feeling more like a mob boss or gang leader instead of just a beer distributor.
