Act 1 Boss question
Is there a secret to killing the Boss in the first act. My damage output seems to be too low and once the boss uses the beam attack my team is basically toast.

Just want to come in and correct this. He doesn't apply wet he just dispels the first 2 debuffs applied to him every 3 turns or so.

As for my biggest advice after having done many 0 progression runs is you'll want to choose your turns to attack wisely. On the turns where Ylmer has thorns and his +30% resistance buffs you will want to pass on your damage for that turn and save energy for turns he isn't going super defensive otherwise you are going to lose a lot of damage hitting into +30% physical resists and taking a lot by hitting the thorns.

At this point, depending on the pathing you can reach level 2. Level 2 allows your team to gain a few things, but the most important thing is the enchantment "enchant weapon" on evelyn, which allows Evelyn to convert someone's damage time to one element for a few attacks.

Evelyn wants a bunch of ways to deal fire damage to deal with the tree and will be one of your main damage dealers in this fight. Reginald, depending on how you build him, can also deal a decent amount of damage with Holy attacks. Andrin and Magnus have some different uses.

Andrin, if you reached level 2, can be a good support with wild hunt and can usually be the one to help kill the healer and support damage. Magnus usually wants to be tanking and mass applying block, as he is your warrior. Magnus can't really do much against the trees given his bleed damage cards but he should have a decent amount of ways to block.

It's a rogue-lite so sometimes you need to level up a bit.

Make sure to put all your points into perks and level cards up as well instead of always adding new ones to your deck. Once you get a few dmg and status perks all the fights will start to feel easier.

Magnus' barricade spell is one of the handiest and most reliable ways to shield your team, buying a second copy and upgrading it help a lot.

If you're still having trouble there's lots of videos online that might give you some tips- watch a pro!

Thanks for your answers. Bur even at level 5 I have no chance to deal enough damage to that boss. I quite like the game but this is a bit too fustrating (glad I only play the demo).

There's a few things you can do.

* There's a character that can be unlocked in Act 1 without needing to kill the tree boss. He's the pig guy down at the bottom of the screen. Take his quest, head up and kill Yogger, and he's yours in future runs. He focuses on shielding allies, which can dramatically reduce the pain.

* This boss likes using Wet to apply to himself, which removes Burn stacks. So while you'd figure Fire is a great damage type to use on him, turns out not so much. Or at least don't focus heavily on applying Burns, merely damage.

* Focus on the dryad, it's also a healer. Then focus on the tree.

* Don't try for the ambush, odds are you won't make it and you'll just make things worse for yourself.

There's no secret. Meta progress, carried over resources, and game knowledge is how you beat it. If you don't have the game knowledge, then you compensate with the others. As your game knowledge expands the rest becomes less required.

I struggled quite a lot my first time through. I did significantly better, beating the first boss on my first run after resetting my progress.

Managed to get boss to 4hp before he ended my team. After 10 more tries I never got close. Fun game for the free weekend but yeah I'm done :D

I tried the game for the first time today and managed to kill the Yogger in my first run, though all my heroes were low hp after the night, so starting the final boss fight with my heroes only around 50% hp ended in a quick death. Still, it was enough to reach level 2 with them. Chose a different path in the 2nd run in which I also beat the tree boss - for the strategy I would recommend killing off the 2 small minions first and then saving energy while the tree has it's thorn shield on, because he eventually drops it, so using Magnus to shield up other and heal with the priest in the meantime, then using the saved energy for a burst damage

Killed Yogger on the first run? That is something. :)
As for bosses, I personally found more luck trying to snipe bosses before killing their minions, but both ways can work.

I just beat it on my second run... after the way that it absolutely obliterated me on my first attempt, I thought I was going to farming stats/cards for a long time. In general, I focused on healing and buffing my tank, and having him defend casters, I focussed on the 2 small trees first, but when he summoned 2 more, I still just focussed on the big tree. Also, I upgraded some of my cards, and also spent perk points, which enabled me to take the laser beam attack without anyone dying.
