captain's presence feels too strong
It cripples runs that are seaming to go absolutely fine on madness 18.

That's the enchantment the boss of new DLC area drops on you, right?

I wonder what they were thinking... essentially being only able to play one card a turn seems like horrible design. Also feels impossible to get rid of rust (the bosses scaling mechanism) when it is always in the back of the debuff list.

Not sure if this would make it too easy, but maybe the first card played every turn costing +2 instead of every card could work. But currently feels way too hard, sucks but basically going to have to skip the DLC for now until they change it.

Yeah we completely avoid the new area on any high madness runs. It's sad, but we only went to the new area to get unlocks and now never play it because it completely kills due to this enchantment.

Bump - can the devs fix the this nonsense? The final boss also spams it with a +2 on madness 18 to all cards.. even cards like yogger's meat.

To be constructive - I believe giving the final boss each of the captain's presence abilities (black, white, red) and have them cycle instead of having a blanket +2 across the board. This would let you consider strategy to the fight on which cards will be more expensive at what time instead of just getting beat down because of a broken mechanic.

yeah i also agree it's too strong. Really annoying to have a new dlc area and you can't go to it because it just kills your run
My last few runs the boss has consistently used Captain's Presence 3-4 turns in a row which has meant I could effectively only use one card per turn for the entire battle.
Definitely rework this.
Came here to agree. Hanshek is easier than this guy. It's sad, but I'll only be going there to unlock things and then bail out. I might beat him, but it's not a fun fight and just starting over makes much better use of my time.

Honestly, I think the Captain's Presence would be fine if they just changed it to +1 energy costs instead of +2. The reason this works better is because plenty of characters have "reduce the cost of X cards by 1", so this would basically negate those discounts without being overbearing on everyone else.
Following up on this. The Captain's Presence effect is complete bullcrap and horrible game design. It's unfun to play against as there is literally nothing you can do since the Captain typically plays it round one, and you can't kill them that fast since the Captain has a high base speed.

I also agree that if it was just a +1 effect, it would be a lot more fun as it's a challenge you can actually overcome, and not just being punished for fighting certain enemies.

I just didn't buy the DLC. Nothing that I wanted, this stupid mechanic, and for almost the price of the base game. Paradox really did this game dirty.

As per the Discord, the devs have indicated that they are planning on changing the Captain's Presence in order to hopefully make it more fun.
