Weekly challenges are a different beast from normal story.
The typical strategy is grab a strong 5 or 6 cost AOE attack/spell. And ways to filter through your deck. Each character should typically be played as dps. Even tanks and healers to finish off low hp enemies.
As you progress it becomes.less about the high cost and more about efficient low cost cards that work with your talents you take as you level.
If the rewards are anything worth it, do the first few corruptions offered to you, at least on floor 1. Point being, if you succeed then you're stronger with those rewards for the rest of the run and if you fail, well, at least you invested little time in that run and you can restart without feeling too bad.
Sometimes, an early corrupted card can have a big impact on your overall strength.
Also try to get the most from altars. When you can remove cards, it's always a good idea to remove as many as possible. When upgrading cards, upgrading 10 cards that cost few shards is often better than upgrading just 1 or 2 fancy ones.
Good luck.
I was going with the approach of 1 tank, 1 core dps, 1 buffer/semi-dps, and 1 pure healer, apparently it's not working out.
