Has anyone found the purpose of the "Lost Mail" item?
I found a lost mail item when Bree sent the werewolves packing. Its an accessory that when you cast a skill 1 per turn you gain 3 unsent mail cards to your hand. After its upgraded it supposedly gives you one inspiration.

Each lost mail card costs 0 and gives 1 bleeding to the user.

Is it used for anything?

I don't know if it has any quest use but it's really good for the new cards that let you discard X for increased effect or some book synergies.

basically this. it's main use is for cards that benefit from 'x' cards being discarded/in the discard pile or vanished pile. There's some other applications, like self-bleed builds (ex: Grukli) and synergy with book builds (ex: Wilbur)

Since you only need to play a skill, playing the skill gives you a net bonus of +2 cards to discard. (or 3 discard/vanish fodder cards)

For some examples.

All In asks you to discard 'x' cards to deal 9 blunt and slash damage per card discarded. If you discard 3 useless letters, you deal 27+27 dmg.

Deja Vu deals 0.5 dmg for every vanished card. So vanishing 3 letters deals 2 dmg (assuming that's the only 3 you have... which is normally not the case)

Each class also has a mythic card that fashions as a "mulligan" card. Discarding 3 useless letters will the full benefit.

A yellow bulk heal will benefit from +9 healing with 3 useless letters than enter your discard if you end your turn with them.

Wilbur can use useless letters to reduce the highest cost cards.

There's also the ink/pen/frozen ink pens that all benefit from this
