Across the Obelisk
What is the point of Madness levels?
I just had a 6700+ madness try before dying and I didn't even get 2000 gold/exp on my treasure chest. What is the point of this stupid difficulty if rewards aren't higher?

High Madness is for when you don't need to care about rewards. Can't use or earn chests if you go high enough.

Also, you can make absolutely enormous chests at any difficulty level, 50k+.

So all risk with no reward? Pass if that's the case. This game is making me irritable. Especially with the OP combos of enemies that are impossible to tackle. I also don't see anything on here talking about meta builds. What exactly is the meta right now?

For what it's worth, increasing madness does increase the amount of character experience you get, unlocking their higher tier personal cards/item/cosmetics faster, as well as getting you up to overall level 50 for perks quicker. And of course, you unlock further madness ranks, and there's card backs you only unlock by doing high madness runs.

In terms of "meta", stacking sharpness/piercing damage (especially with Sylvie) used to be the very top; it got nerfed slightly but it's still very good (maybe still the strongest build). I've always found vision nez/sylvie to be a very strong core that can work with almost anyone else. Zek/Malukah are a very strong darkness core.

Keep in mind that getting more perk points increases your power by a lot. Once you can get a bunch of the higher-tier bonuses the game becomes much easier, especially since a lot of builds don't really work (or don't work nearly as well) without some of the higher bonuses, like lightning spreading itself automatically or thorns not decreasing when hit.

Its not about rewards, its about playing the game on a level of difficulty you find enjoyable. The chests are basically there to ensure you have something help you beat the game the first couple times, they aren't really the main meta reward, and the game isn't really about meta rewards.

The reward is a unique card back.

Strange, since when im playing im under the impression that the meta game is the only thing that matters.
I suppose it doesnt matter then, its just confusing.
Overall i must be honest that im not enjoying the game all that much.
Im just tired of getting completely destroyed by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fights and it doesnt feel like im progressing at all.
Theres plenty of rogue games out there that can do the same to you and yet dont feel the same way if you get what i mean.
And im not even doing the madness levels as those seem completely and utterly pointless to me.
Why even bother with them for getting such a massive debuff over pathetic rewards in them?
I mean do you have to do it for the cards? i dont know?
If i follow what you say it doesnt seem like you should be and its just optional? Well ok then.

idk, im just dissapointed that the game feels more frustrating and irritating then it is fun.
Bought it with a friend to play, but i cant say i feel like playing anymore.

Its all about overcoming the difficulty. Madness 0 is a joke. As you progress you will find that each madness level becomes much easier as you start to understand the enemies and what works and what doesnt. At that point its a matter of how hard can you push yourself to overcome the next difficulty so you feel like youve improved. Thats the whole point of increasing difficulty.
just git gut, i took M16 in 1 turn
