You will definitely end up less powerful than if you'd done them, but not hugely so. It's mostly there as an option to speed the early game up to make it quicker to get to unlocks, particularly if you've already accumulated quite a few perks and such and/or are playing on a fairly low difficulty.

It gives enough EXP to get you to level 5 at Twins just like not taking the fast travel does...
The straw hat quest line gets you Level 5 before the twins too. I did a lot of low Madness using the fast travel node and I never really ended up regretting or even noticing it.
Plus, exp scales up as the act progresses, hence the amount of exp that you lose out by using caravan fast travel early on is probably less than a combat encounter in Act 4. Regardless of which path you take, you'll be at least Lv4 during the encounter of Dusk & Dawn.
